Hi,
I just found this site & am excited to be able to talk to people who know what Her2 is. I am a retired operating room nurse who never planned on getting breast cancer but some times God has other plans for us. I was diagnosed in March of this year(stage1, negative sentinel node biopsy), had a lumpectomy, underwent chemotherapy and radiation, and started Herceptin in July. I feel great and was amazed to find that I not only did not mind losing my hair but really like it as short as it is now & am going to try to keep it this way.

Welcome, Marlys! I know how excited I was to find this site last summer (after DX with my third round of BC in 20 years), and find people who REALLY understand! You will find so much good information and experiences, plus lots of caring and concern and compassion. There has never been so much available for BC as there is now or as much hope for managing it and even for full recovery. You can go back for several years on this site and follow threads and read sharing of experiences. Many of these ladies have been on here for years and the best way to get the full picture is to read as far back as you can and, of course, keep up several times a week. It is such a blessing that you are getting herceptin as stage one, instead of being stage IV as most of us are. Best wishes! Hugs, Tricia

Hi Marlys, and WELCOME, I am one of the old timers, been in constant treatment since 1998 and found this site about 3 years back, I am not quite sure how old the site is, but I am not doing so bad for someone who's expiry date was 2000 or there abouts. I am in Australia, I some times refer to it as OZ and there are a few other ladies here as well, so with the time difference I can ask a question before I go to bed and usually have an answer when I get up, or at other times I am still on here at 2.00am, depends how I feel, this site is great therapy and I haven't lost my typing skills. Just ask away, and it doesn't matter if you ask the same question over and over again, we really don't mind, I sometimes have a short term memory loss, I put it down to the medication, I would dare say it is becasue I turned 51 yesterday, I am still trying to get use to 50, anyway every birthday is a bonus, but I tell everone, the amount of chemo I have had which has killed off cells and given back new ones, I am getting younger, that is my theory and I am sticking to it.Talk to you soon.

I am also new to this site. Just posted my first reply & am glad I found this. I've had 2 primaries 10 years apart. I am one of those unfortunate patients who had to stop herceptin early becuz I was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. It was far worse than the chemo I went thru. I couldn't even explain it in words. I am also going for genetic testing which was recommended by my newest oncologist. I had to leave the last one becuz he failed me miserably with the herceptin. That's a whole other story!!!!!!
