Dear All
I am on 3 weekly herceptin/carbo.Although it has been 4 weeks since the last one as my bloods are too low. I seem to be getting a funny throat feeling. i am very physically tired but also i seem to have this closing of the throat. i cough very infrequently.I have thought of lung mets and pleural infusion and my onc listened to my lkungs last visit and said they sound good. It does not feel like a lung problem more a throat problem. Does anyone else know of this side effect? I know carbo can cause an allergic reaction in the throat but that is usually at the time of infusion.
Thanks for any help.
love
linda

Hi,

I know one lady who had the same rx as you. They did an MRI because they though it might be mets but some irritation reaction. Unfortunately I don't know this lady very well ( my mom's friend of a friend of a friend) and she was not HER2 positive but had mets to her liver. She is NED now and doing ok. Hope that helps, have an MRI if you want.

Take care,
Anne

I , too have experienced this. Still do once in a while. I think it is the herceptin. I do not like to take benedrill, so I put up with it.

Linda,

I have been having a closing of the throat and neck soreness (see previous post). Today my onc felt the throat may be a side effect of the steriod on my acid reflux. Are you also taking steriod with herceptin and do you have any gerd/acid reflux type problem. He increased my Nexium to twice daily to see if it has an effect. Hope this helps.

I wonder if it could be anxiety? When I was having anxiety attacks I had what felt like a tightening around my throat, someone standing on my chest and also felt like I was going to suffacate a terrible feeling. I didn't have them all at the same time. When I would wake up in the night and couldn't breath I then realized I was having anxiety attacks. Once I went on some ativan I was find. I took it for two years and then slowly got myself off it. I was addicted so it took a few months of tapering down. Have had no problems since. Hope this helps. hugs, Sandy
