Does anyone know why the "6 months from the last chemo treatment" timeframe was chosen for women to receive Herceptin versus any other timeframe?
This factoid would be interesting to know. Thank you in advance Becky |
Hey Becky,
It's my understanding that this is because the international trial (HERA) allowed women to enroll up to 6 months after they completed chemo (and/or radiation). The reality is that most women started much sooner than that. But since there is, at least on paper, a clinical trial that supported the idea that you could use herceptin up to six months after completion of other adjuvant treatment, doctors seem to be accepting this as a standard of care. It's about as scientific as anything else out there. Which is to say, not very. Good luck! Jeff |
