Anyone experienced eyelashes falling out on Herceptin (unopposed)? I noticed that my eyelashes were falling out more than usual in the last couple of months of treatment. Now that treatment is done, my eyelashes seem to have gotten thicker.
Anyone else? Why don't they TELL you these things first so you are not shocked!? |
After Cyndi's first bout with BC and subsequent chemo, her eyelashes were still attached. But....then when the new ones started growing, it was like all the old lashes were pushed out of the socket. This was weird because as her hair was growing, the eyelashes were suddenly gone. Cyndi's eyelashes remained even when she had no hair or eyebrows. I think no eyelashes bothered her more than no hair......
God Bless You, ron |
Lost my eyelashes during both rounds of chemo. It was not the Adrai, but the Taxotere, that did it the first time. They were the last to go as eyebrows thinned faster.
Second time, it was just the length of time I was on Taxol and navelbine that made them all fall out. Very slow to grow back - maddeningly slow. I have been on the 3-week dose of Herceptin for about 22 months now and eyelashes almost back to normal. Thinking about getting them dyed, in fact! |
I would follow Ron's two week rule. if you hear hoofbeats, run like heck! don't horses AND zebras have hoofbeats?
|
Yes, both have hoofbeats, but you will generally see a horse after you hear a hoofbeat. It is rare as heck that you will see a zebra. Sometimes, yes, it IS a zebra. But usually it is not. If I hear hoofbeats, I pray it is a horse and I try to assume it is a horse unless and until it is proven to be a zebra. A lump in my breast was CLEARLY a zebra because I had NEVER had any lumps in my breast before. And I was right, it was a zebra. A pimple on my breast was a horse because I have had pimples on my chest before. And yes, it was indeed a horse and was gone within the two week period.
Thanks for your concern, Anonymous. Wondering though why you don't post your name. Do I know you? |
My eyelashes and eyebrows were both lost while on taxotere, it's been over a year and although they both came back, both are very sparse and thin.

Yes, my eyelashes fell out during AC/Taxol, grew back in thereafter (during radiation) and then fell out again after a couple of months on Herceptin. However, I found that when I switched to a gentler mascara (Maybelline Full & Soft) and began taking a vitamin B supplement, they have come back while on Herceptin.
I'm with Ron's wife, Cindi, I had a harder time dealing with my eyelashes falling out than my hair! |
Yes! I agree...gentler mascara did help. Also, I moisturized my eyelashes with a bit of grapeseed oil. That seemed to stave off some of the fall-out. Now that I am a month out of herceptin, my eyelashes seem to be falling out a bit less.
|
What an aggravation! My eyelashes thinned out while on navelbine (& herceptin) and have never really thickened up again. But, I have to say, I'd rather have hair (I do) than eyelashes! I hate wearing a wig and tho I'm gonna have to lose it sooner or later, I treasure my hair while I still have it!
