Can you take calcium supplements with bone mets? I heard that calcium can help the bone mets to grow. Is this true?

I take a calcium pill every day along with my vitamins. My onc. hasn't told me not to, or didn't tell me to either, for that matter.

I was told not to take any calcium supplements, but truthfully, I forgot the reason why.

I was told not to take calcium supplements because it may give false blood test results.

I was told not to take calcium supplements because when the mets are active in your bones, you are leaching calcium into your system which causes problems (body itching, etc.) Plus you should be on a bone strenghener now. For instance, I am on Xomeda. The onc. nurse and I laughed about the fact that I wasn't going to die with osteoperosis!

While I was on treatment for the mets I took Fosamax, then it was the weekly version.
After reaching complete response, I have been maintained on Zometa and am instructed to take a calcium supplement along with this as my analysis tends to be just below normal without it.
The nutritionist at my cancer center said the reason is that the Zometa grabs calcium from my blood supply and pushes it into my bones. So my bones get stronger, but we need calcium in other places in our bodies.
