Well, I hadn't posted recently because I have been very depressed/frustrated. For those of you following my story, my lung mets continue to progress. I had CT scan 2 weeks ago and my big lung met went from 5.1x3.4 to 6.0x4.5 in about 6 weeks while on Taxotere(for 2nd time) and Herceptin. As of last week, I was put on Zeloda/Gemzar without herceptin, my onc. says according to UCLA, Herceptin/Zeloda are antagonistic to each other. My smaller lung mets are also inching up but are still small. Any help or new or innovative ideas you ladies/gentlemen have will be appreciated. Are any of you on Zeloda/Gemzar combo? My onc. mentioned a clincial trial she wants me to go on after I exhaust Zeloda. Does anyone know if it is the GW572016 that I hear mentioned on this website. Does anyone have info on this trial as to what it is, where it is being conducted, etc. Have any of you ever had radiation to lung mets? Please help or if you can refer me to sites I would truly appreciate it. You all have been so wonderful to me. As always, I will keep you in my prayers.

i am so sorry to hear you are feeling depressed. I may be starting a trial of the GW57.....and Xeloda if the protocls can be worked out here. It( GW thing) is for women who have progressed on herceptin. I am having it for the skin mets which seem to progress on everything for me although since the last surgery their is little sign. I am just on herceptin and ibuprofen cause I think it must do something and I am not sure we have celebrex in Australia.I don't know much about the trial yet but see my onc on Thursday and will keep you poste.

Hi there, yes we do have Celebrex in Australia, it along with Ipruphen are non steroids anti inflammatories. Not my favourite of course, previuosly gave me heart failure when the Celebrex caused my heart to pump backwards putting fluid on my lungs. Not necessarily the celebrex on its own but it did, so I have to avoid any anti-inflammatories. I had taken anti-inflammatories for well over 20 years for a connective tissue disorder and I still got breast cancer? Maybe the anti-inflammatory works similar to having ice with 5FU (liquid xeloda) and apparently heat with Taxol/Carboplatin?

Hi Lyn. I have a question regarding your post regarding ice and Xeloda. Does that mean you can eat anything with ice while on Xeloda. Sorry, if this is a dumb question but I didn;t get it. Thanks.

Has your oncologist considered using WEEKLY taxol(instead of taxotere) carboplatin and herceptin? Carboplatin in particular is very synergistic with herceptin. Cisplatin is also used but is a little nastier with the side effects. This combo seems to work well with little side effects. Good luck.
