I was successfully treated with Navelbine/Herceptin for mets in my body, but these drugs do not get to the brain, as the other gals have explained.

Because your sister is having these symptoms, she will be getting Decadron ASAP, before any other treatment options are discussed. The Decadron acts by decreasing the swelling/pressure from tumors in the brain. That is what is causing her symptoms. Tumors in different parts of the brain will manifest with different symptoms, too.

I was diagnosed with brain mets 20 months ago. I have consistently refused WBR and have had five seperate focalized radiation procedures, treating a total of 16 brain mets tumors.

However, I did not have the symptoms that your sister does. Depending on the number and actual size of her tumors and her health otherwise, she could very well have a choice in her treatments.

Currently, my scans show no new tumors and all others gone or controlled and shrinking.

There is much HOPE to be had. With first diagnoses of brain mets I was terrified... yet, after 20 months, I have learned that it is NOT the worst case scenario afterall.

hugs to you both,
pattyz
