? About Taking chemo during SRS radiosurgery to brain

Has anyone taken chemo or targeted medicines during SRS radiosurgery. I am on SRS for five days for five lesions. I started yesterday and will continue till next Wednesday. I am currently on Xeloda, Afinitor, tykerb, Herceptin and zometa for cancer in lungs, liver and bones which is active. My MO and RO both said there is not enough data for chemo or targeted theraphy during extended SRS radiosurgery and I was in new territory. They do withhold all treatment during WBR. They have said it was my choice as there was insufficient data. I do not like making this decision but will probably continue. If any one has experience with this or advise, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

I had a one day treatment of Stereotactic Radiation Therapy for an hour to two spots to my brain. I was on Xeloda and Herceptin at the time and did not have a break. However, you are definitely getting a lot more drugs and having more radiation for a longer time.

I felt really fortunate that I did not suffer much in the way of side effects, other than from the Xeloda which was ongoing and no different before or after the radiation.

Your decision is definitely a really tough one! I will pray for clarity to come to you and for you to feel peaceful about the decisions you make. I also hope someone can chime in and offer some advice! Thinking of you!

If it is only five days then I would stop my daily meds for those five days. If that is too worrisome, You could certainly cut Tykerb down to one or two pills a day to keep it in your system, ditto for xeloda. I'm assuming you aren't due for your infusion during these five days. If you are, I would postpone for a week or so post brain zaps. None of these drugs disappear immediately so you are ok with a few days off, in my non medical expert opinion. Have you considered xgeva for your bone mets? It did better in clinical trial than zometa.
