Penquin Cold Caps???

Hi all, I am curious I have a friend who will be starting treatment...has anyone used or know of the product Penquin Cold Caps....does it work? How long have they been on the market?

I would love to advise my friend but do not have enough information. Thank you for your help.

Re: Penquin Cold Caps???

Hi,

They were not available at my hospital in '05 when I had chemo but some facilities did have them. I was chatting with a lady using one while getting her chemo a few months ago and I was just having a zometa tx, she really was'nt impressed and found it difficult to keep it on the whole time and the nurse I spoke to said some people lose some but not all their hair but overall no one using them kept all their hair.
Perhaps someone else knows differently though but I do recall reading that any hair left would be quite straggly with bald spots around the scalp so a scarf or wig would be needed anyway.

Thank you Tricia,
When I heard of it I thought it was way too good to be true.

I used them for 6 rounda of tch. I kept my thick shoulder length hair. Most women do. Noone even knows I was going thru chemo. Even with adriamycin, the hair remains. They stayed on tight, but you do have to have a loving partner help you during the infusion as they must be changed. Frank Fronda invented them, and is an angel to talk to....have your friend call them up. There are imposter caps out there, not working nearly as well...so beware.

Re: Penquin Cold Caps???

I am happy to pass along the information, there is no reason to lose hair anymore...with any chemo protocol. When I looked in the mirror every morning, I did not see a cancer patient. I saw me. The mental benefit to me was tremendous. I have young children, and it helped to have things as normal as possible. I see it slowly catching on...more oncs ask about it. I think my name is on some sort of list abut them because I get lots of calls from very nervous and upset women. Boy do I remember those days. Still have them occasionally!
It's been a blessing in disguise. Helping calm other women who are facing surgery, chemo, etc..has helped me heal. It's nice to be on the other side of the tunnel, even if I just got here, and by the skin of my teeth.
I SO apologize for big letters and bolding...I am brand new here and can't figure this out...I am highlighting and canceling the Bold button, darn it!!
And Jean...I LOVE your name too!! It will be very easy for me to remember :D
