Interesting..and a little disturbing, given the fact that mom had only Arimidex. Mom's current onc is a fan of tamoxifen. He uses it in an in-house protocol that is also applied to ER neg breast cancer as well as other cancers. Kind of a rotation of Taxanes with Tamoxifen synergizing at an ER independent level.
I remember when I was first learning of SERMs and AIs. I asked about combining the two since they work in different ways and was told "that isn't done".
I wonder if this article is pointing to the idea that Tamoxifen up front diminishes the receptor/receiver so that AIs, working at the source/supply, have a better chance.
Eventually I bet they will find Fulvestrant to be better than Tamoxifen in adjuvant since it permanently obliterates the receptor.
