You brought up an interesting issue. Personally, I think there are way too many people looking to get offended, way too often. As a card carrying smart ass, the too quick to be offended crowd is stifling my opportunities to thrive. I think the 'Save the Boobs' messaging is too crass for my tastes and I don't see myself wearing a bracelet or a shirt with that slogan on it. But having experienced second hand cancer treatment, I don't see a problem with the message. If the campaign gets one person to have a mammogram and saves their life, then I can put up with a little crudeness. I think it also separates one's self with one's body parts and it may make some of the more horrific aspects of cancer surgery easier to tolerate. So there may be good things to the crude humor. But mostly it seems it gives 14 year old boys something to giggle at. I'm just saying... |
