Heart health monitor: LVEF vs GLS

One more thing to worry about, usually echo cardiogram is use to monitor heart’s health, one of the important number in an echo report is the Left Ventricle Ejection Fraction (LVEF). Below 50% or a big drop is a concern. I saw a new parameter on my wife’s recent echo, global longitudinal strain (GLS). From the below papers, it seems GLS is a more accurate prognostic indicator than LVEF, according to the below papers. I am almost certain a fair number of oncologists are not familiar with it. Perhaps you can discuss it with your, if GLS appears on your echo.
