Anyone taking Arimidex?

I have moved from South Louisiana to East Tennessee to live with my daughter following the death of my husband in June. I have new doctors etc. This is a much smaller town than Baton Rouge, but so far everything seems good. My new doctor has prescribed Arimidex daily. It's a pill, and I knew I would be taking it, but I thought I'd begin after Herceptin.

Does anyone have any experience with this drug? So far I'm not noticing too many side effects other than an increase in neuropathy in hands and feet. :-(

Best to all,
Lynne

Sorry about your husband, Lynne. I take letrozole - another type of aromatase inhibitor (of which Arimidex is one). I started after chemo and radiation and during Herceptin. I was also on it for 5 years with my first bc. Minimal side effects, can cause an increase in bone aches (or it's just my age). It should not cause neuropathy. That could be leftover from chemo?

Best
Janis

Re: Anyone taking Arimidex?

Hi Lynn,

I took it for eight years and just stopped this summer on the advice of my Onc, the main side effect I had was stiffness in joints but not everyone gets that, bone loss can be an issue though so you need to get a Dexa scan done at the start so they have a baseline, it just measures bone density and I get one every two years, I did get osteopenia but this has been reversed since I began getting a once yearly iv of Zometa which is a bone strengther.
