Fluctuating Tumor Markers

My tumor marker has been rising since last November from 19 to 27 and my CEA has been stable. Since my diagnosis in Jan 2011 i have had 4 clean PET scans even when my TM was in the 30s, 40s. My next appointment with the onco is in 2 weeks but i doubt he will order another scan so soon as my last one was in mid Aug. nor would he change my medication since my skin mets are responding well to tykerb and xeloda. I am not too worried about it but it is kinda of nerve wrecking. I know i am fortunate just to have a normal TM although it is going up. Anyone had similiar experience while on Tykerb and Xeloda or off treatment? Thanks!!

I am sorry I don't have any information for you, but hopefully one of the wise, smart women out here will.

Hi, Yanyan,
I don't have an answer for you, but can relate to this riddle. My TMs were on an upward trend, with nine months of clean PET/CT/MRIs. Then they came down. The trend was a few points up above normal, around 9 on CEA. We don't do 27-29.
However, it looks like things are going in the right direction for you. My oncologist said it best--if we could rely solely on TMs, we would, but scans trump all--just that the TMs are sometimes AHEAD of the scans. Well, that completes the never-ending circle for us, right?
Hugs
Karen

Haha you are surely right about our never ending circle Karen! I will knock on wood and enjoy a clean scan result!
