Is it normal to get Brain Scans if experiencing headaches?
 

Hi Guys,

My girlfriend has been experiencing headaches for a while now. They aren't getting any worse. She is on Zoladex and Tamoxifen.

We've just been to see her oncologist and they have booked a head and neck ct scan. They said if they come back clear they then request MRI Scan. The reason for CT first is that it's quick to get a CT Scan.

Am I right in thinking this is common protocol if you tell your oncologist you've been experiencing headaches.

My girlfriend is beside herself, but I said it's a process of elimination to find out what the problem is.

For HER2 it is common to have the malignancy skip into the central nervous system. It was missed in me and in spite of seeking medical help for painful headaches I almost died.

I say no messing about and get the brain checked ASAP if anything seems slightly off neurologically.

As Agness said, you don't want to mess around when there are ANY issues with the brain. Get it checked ASAP as HER2 does seem to like to go to the brain. It may be nothing but best to get it checked.

Chances are that it's nothing but it is normal protocol to go get scanned because of it is something, you can do something about it.

Managed to get an MRI for today. Fingers crossed the results come back clear and soon.
