Simple question re: Claritin for Neulesta

I've been reading different suggestions for taking Claritin to combat Neulesta. My ONC nurse warned me that younger people feel the effects of Neulesta more predominantly. Therefore, I am definitely planning on it. I have read to start it 3-4 days before chemo, and some have said to start the day of chemo, and Neulesta patch administers automatically the day after.

If you took Claritin, when did you take it and how was the effect?

Just trying to wrap my head around all these meds...TCH, steriods, neulesta, anti-nausea, Claritin...did I miss anything.

Thanks lovelies!!

I hadn't heard of this, hope it works. I had the Neulesta shot and the first couple kicked my ass, I had bad bone pain in both my legs. But as I went through chemo it got better and didn't bother me.

I took it. It's a bit of a blur now, even though only a year ago. I think I did it a couple days before, day of and a couple after. I had no bone pain at all. Just a bit of joint discomfort that was not very pronounced at all. Good luck!

I hadn't heard of this, I did get some bone pain but assumed it was from the chemo regime so just put up with it and didn't find out until much later the culprit was neulasta, hope it works.

Some of the ladies on this site swear by it but I never took it. The Neulasta made my legs sore for a couple of days. I kept up with exercise as much as I could (treadmill walking) and I think that definitely contributed to my limited side effects. Just keep walking as much as you can. You'll be surprised at the benefit!

I always started it the day before chem and stopped on day four post chemo. I never had any side effects. I am not getting Neulasta this time around. My new oncologist won't give it unless my neutrophils drop.

I was told that Claritin would help but I didn't take it. I had absolutely no side effects from Neulasta at all. As you can see from the other responses, it seems that we all react differently.

Take care,
Brenda
