Cervical cancer now?!

Hopefully it's just a faulty PAP, but it came back positive. I finished rads about 1.5 months ago and can't believe anything could come back positive. I did a search and not much correlation between HER2+ and cervical cancer. Hoping it's just a weird spot and will resolve. I feel like I've been through a war already! Not telling anyone (other than you all) until after my consult and retest tomorrow. I'm just sick of the appointments!

Good luck with the retest. I hope that it was just a false positive and that everything is okay.

Re: Cervical cancer now?!

I'm praying it's a false negative as well. You definitely don't need something like this to deal with.

Hi Julie,

I had my first pap in 2 years (sidetracked by BC) in August. Came back with the dreaded "abnormal". Gyn said not to worry since he has experienced other patients after chemo having abnormal paps. Will re-do in 6 months and do a cone if necessary.

Oncologist asked why I went to get a pap! Duh! She would have waited since the side effects of chemo evidently have a negative effect on cervical cells. Who knew?

Good luck with the re-test. Please let us know as soon as possible

Best
Janis

As several have said, I've had abnormal PAP and then fine. And this is what I wish for you, Julie!

Chemo and rads mess around w/everything we've got.

May have to wait 6 mnths, but in the meantime, please try not to worry. It happens. So sorry it happened to you!

ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!

I find myself looking up and saying this pleadingly a lot lately. Mammo and U/S weird. Massive corneal abrasion (from accident with one of puppy's paws), thyroid wacky (TSH abnormal), IBS angry from last June's abdominal surgery..........

I AM FINE. YOU ARE FINE.

Let's stick with that!

Love,
ANDI

I also had an abnormal PAP, and waited 3 months for the next one, which showed NO abnormality.

Patience my friend. You will be just fine.

Hang in there! As Denise said, stay in the now. It is what it is, and it's probably nothing.

Hi Julie, I'm not sure that a positive PAP it necessarily means you have
cervical cancer. Also in many occasions the pap just like the CA-125 yields too
many false - positive results.
Don't even think about it, everything it's going to be fine.

I will pm you with something that happened to a dear friend of mine.

Love you,

Adriana

Re: Cervical cancer now?!

Hi,

I'm hoping your pap smear is benign. i am a pathologist, trained in cytology. If you are on any sort of chemo or have been on any in the last 3 months, please make sure your doctor told the pathologist/ cytologist about this. Chemo may affect normal cells making them look bizarre, so they mimic malignancy. If the cytologist doesn't know your history, they may wrongly call the smear positive, when it is only the chemo effect.

Secondly, most abnormal pap smears are due to "pre-malignant" changes rather than invasive carcinoma. It's like DCIS compared to invasive breast carcinoma. Pre-invasive lesions in the cervix are very treatable and have an excellent prognosis. Even if there is early invasion, the prognosis is very good.

Good luck. I hope it all turns out well.
