Today's New York Post. Wondering if anyone has other input on this upcoming treatment. Karen |
Re: Cd47
Thanks for posting. We need a drug like this that is the Achilles heel for all cancers!

Cancer Drug That Shrinks All Tumors Set To Begin Human Clinical Trials
Hi Karen. Is this the same as you speaking of? Sounds promising.. Love you, ANDI |
Re: Cd47
I am actually very hopeful about the possibility that the immune system can (eventually) be used to stop cancer. But I think this particular idea is not anything to get excited about, at least not yet.
For one thing, it's only been studied in mice. There are experts who believe mice are essentially useless (or worse) when trying to tease out immune responses to cancer. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/12/sc...says.html?_r=0 And secondly, this bit is rather alarming: "One side effect of the treatment was that healthy cells were subjected to short-term attacks by the mice's immune system, but the effect was nothing in comparison to the damage done to the cancer cells" We would not want to eradicate the cancer only to leave someone suffering from an autoimmune disease. There would have to be a LOT of safety investigation around that "short term" qualification. Debbie Laxague |
Re: Cd47
Yes, Andi, that's it. I would gladly go on this trial should my current one fail me (I don't trust the Cunning Little HER2). Anything, anything I can do to eradicate this dis-ease, to be sure that my daughter, all of our children, all of us, don't have an inkling of what breast cancer is anymore. Loetz's work is miraculous, I would love a conference with him. I really believe they are on to something...
Speak soon, Love Karen |
Re: Cd47
Have opened dialogue with Dr. Loetz, and will resume communication about options and his research once my daughter loses her cough and gets back to school.
Always searching, Karen |
Re: Cd47
This is so interesting, Karen, please keep us posted on your conversations. I wonder if they are going to open a clinical trial and what the inclusion/exclusion criteria will be.
