Hunger in youth linked to breast cancer
This is in one of the news forums, but I thought it would be of interest to those who read here: http://www.news-medical.net/news/201...-in-women.aspx

Re: Hunger in youth linked to breast cancer
Surely (I hope) they know about the extremely high breast cancer incident rate among Ashkanazi Jewish women who are highly concentrated in Germany and are highly susceptable to breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
Perhaps someone can conduct a similar research about other modern communities where there's food shortage/famine... From what we've heard, calorie restriction actually will result in longer life for senior adults. I doubt any of our members on this Board has experienced hunger in her/his childhood... |
Re: Hunger in youth linked to breast cancer
Some Dutch researchers have done a series of articles based on a famine in the Netherlands at the end of World War II. These indicate that calorie restriction before the age of 10 has serious long-term negative effects, including breast cancer mortality.

Re: Hunger in youth linked to breast cancer
I have to wonder, though...having been a former public school teacher and seeing the junky 'healthy food' that is provided to kids on the free meal program...including food colorings, preservatives, etc...are the researchers considering this type of food product as a variable? Because my money is on the chemicals as catalysts.
