navelbine side effect

What are the side effects of navelbine? Is hairloss one of them?

Hi there, as luck would have it you get to keep your hair. My experience after first few doses I would get and upset stomach and have to run to the loo, but everyone is different and apart from that I had no problems at all with it. Just as a precaution don't plan on going shopping straight afterwards for the first dose just to see how you react. Hope this helps, I had heaps of it, and it is a drug you can have again after a 2 month break, hope you don't need it but it is a safety blanket because it is an effective drug.

Love & Hugs Lyn

Correction that is a 12 month break, did't push the 1 hard enough.

My counts were often low, but other than that there were no problems...

Dear Kay, I had navelbine for 6 months with no side effects except my fingernails got soft as paper and had deep ridges. It has taken almost a year for that to improve, but it seems minor compared to side effects of some other chemos. I had no hair loss at all. Navelbine seems to be one of the most effective and well tolerated of the chemos. My oncologist gave it with herceptin and I believe it is most effective in that combination. I am now NED and I think the navelbine-herceptin-femara combination certainly contributed to that. Good luck! I'm so glad you've found this website! Hugs,Tricia

Another thought, Kay: Navelbine is hard on the veins, so I really recommend you have a port put in if you don't have one now. I am so grateful for my port! It has been a godsend to me and I have never had any problems with it. Tricia

I've had Navelbine 3 times now, and never lost my hair. It thins somewhat, along with eyelashes and eyebrows, but that's all. However, I'm with Trish, a port is a godsend with Navelbine, it is VERY hard on the veins. It will make your life and your nurses lives much easier :)

I'm usually one of the minority. Accordingly, I DID lose my hair with Navelbine and had other not so great side effects. But it did help the mets. Good luck.

Love and light,

Lisa

Navelbine was the easiest chemo I have taken and I've been on 4 types. My hair grew and I was really happy about that. However, it didn't work for me.

Good luck,

Beth
