Taxotere throat sores.....HELP!

Well I had the second Taxotere and I am still sick and feel like I'm getting worse. Oral lesions don't bother me what is is the soft palate and upper esophagus are so sore I can't swallow, not a thing. I had a strep swab done again but won't know the results until next week. The Family Doctor gave me some antibiotics and a medicated mouthrinse to help with the pain... doesn't thought. Did anyone else experience this? It is like my tissue is slowly burning from the inside out. Anywhere there is a weakness in the skin it comes out in a second degree burn type lesion. This is AFTER the premed wears off about day 4ish and continues to worsen.
Any ideas?

I feel so bad for you - I can't believe that you have to wait until next week for the strep test, where I live you know the same day.

I had a few mouth sores (the worst were in the throat area) but they went away quickly when I kept rinsing my mouth with salt water. I kept salt water in my bathroom and kitchen and rinsed my mouth out everytime I went into either room. This is what the chemo nurses had instructed me to do.

My oncologist gave me magic mouth wash for pain, if this isn't what you were given - perhaps you can request a prescription for it - here is some info:

I'm sorry you are suffering with this too. I had the mouth sores & raw throat my first 2 treatments (A/C). The chemo kills the fast growing cells and unfortunately our mouths, throat & stomachs are all part of that group.

I was given a lidocaine mix (had something for my stomach as well) Anyway, it seemed to work and the remaining treatments I did not have this reaction. Someone also recommended slippery elm for my throat but never got around to trying it, maybe someone here has tried it.

Take Care.

Mary
