Intrathecal Herceptin Is Working!
 

Just got the call from my oncologist that, after only two treatments of intrathecal Herceptin over the past 5 weeks, all four of my new brain mets have shrunk and there are no new ones! IT IS WORKING!!!!

We are going to continue with the once monthly treatments and will probably scan again in another 6 weeks to see where we are at. Looks like I get to dodge the whole brain radiation bullet once again. Thank you GOD!!!!

Wow...now this is some very fantastic news! I am so happy for you. You are a true trailblazer for this dreaded disease. I'm especially excited that you have had such great results and so quickly! :) The fact that you can avoid radiation is another major plus. I think I will now do that happy dance. Woo hoo you go girl. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks so much for the update...it's put a smile on my face.

Great news!! I wanted to hear good results from you because I did suspect this might work for you because you responded so well to Herceptin in your body. Since this method is the only way to get Herceptin into the brain, I was very hopeful this would work for you.

You are very brave and are also a pioneer - leading the way for others and a true warrior. I admire your tenacity at leaving no stone unturned.

COURTNEY - FABULOUS news! I'm SO happy for you! I pray for you every night and he/she is listening! Pam gets her results middle of June. She had 9 tumors zapped with SRS LINAC surgery. Time will tell. My best to you as always

I share your joy and am so pleased for you! I have a question. For others that may be interested, is this now a conventional treatment? Or is this a clinical trial? Or is this an "off label" use of Herceptin? Just curious; do you know?

Good question, Kim. Its an off-label use. Its been done many times before and there are case studies out there showing complete CNS remission with use of Intrathecal Herceptin. Apparently there are clinical trials coming in the US. But I couldn't wait for that. I had to get these things under control stat.

In other good news - my latest PET/CT shows dramatic reductions in my existing lung, skin and bone mets. Liver is still in good shape. NED here I come...

So that means that any oncologist can do the same...ie with full disclosure to the patient that it is an off label use of Herceptin?
