Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
I would think that if you can eat a fruit or vegie than you can eat its leaves, too. I don't know if that's a trustworthy rule or not. Anyone know of a plant that has edible fruit and poisonous leaves? I do know that squash

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
oops, didn't mean to press "post". I know squash blossoms are really yummy and nutricious...that's why the deer love to eat them!

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Then I must be a deer (smiling). I think they are yummy.>>Believe51

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Hey Bill,
We tried some squash leaves last night (yellow squash) lightly steamed with lemon and a dash of sea salt. My husband threw some bragg's amino acids on them and they were yummy! And yes, I've always thought of Marie as a beautiful and graceful deer with a great sense of humor (and a diet of squash leaves. |
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Hey Vickie! I tried some last night, too. They were good. I skipped parts 1,2,3, and 4 of the tests you should make to determine if a wild plant is edible. I just ripped off a leaf and ate it. Then I simmered some in a skillet with some olive oil, garlic, fresh-ground pepper, and some slivered onions. I also added some swiss chard, mustard greens and spinach (all from the garden) It was really good! Thanks to everyone for the advice on the squash leaves!

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Oh, you daring soul, you! Sounds like our Bill is becoming epicurian, at least in the family of leaves (and ribs).

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Our neighborhood in Oregon City was the main feature of the Culture Warriors segment of the O'Reilly Factor last night. We have a crazy neighbor who was identified as 'Rae' on the segment who lives across the street and two doors down. And when I say crazy, I mean that she has a debilitating Axis II personality disorder as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Reference Manual, third edition, revised.
Anyways, she refuses to wear clothes anymore because she feels plastics and artificial fibers are oozing into her skin, getting into her blood, where it accumulates in her brain and tells her what to do. I know what you are thinking, who doesn't feel that way on a rare occasion? So anyways, the point of the segment was that the Oregon Constitution doesn't allow laws to prevent anyone from being naked anywhere, at any time. It sucks to be us. So if any of you have any ideas how to get 'Rae' to put on her clothes, the residents of Bellevue Avenue would certainly appreciate your ideas. P.S. This is actually true. Every single word of it. ...... unlike almost all of my other posts. P.P.S. Except for my grandmother using us to smuggle flour across the border. Thats true too. |

Anyone know of a plant that has edible fruit and poisonous leaves? Tomatoes and potatoes are both nightshades. The leaves are very poisonous. Cashews are perfectly edible but almost every part of a cashew tree has blistering agents. Apples are great but their seeds contain high concentrations of of Potassium cyanide, cupcakes are delicious but Bill will shoot you if you try to eat his cupcake tree. There is no reason to assume a leaf is edible if the fruit is. |

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Hey....whats going on??? All this talk about leaf eating or experimentation or whatever.
I HOPE YOU DIDN'T KILL BILL!!! |
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
I think I just saw Bill in the hammock by the campfire, Harrie. He was sporting a new leaf, eating some ribs and very much alive.....I think that was Bill.....
|
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Was he like...."wearing" the new leaf????
|
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
It was a Big leaf....I'll leave it at that. Let's just say he was covered in green (Hope he doesn't decide to stew this leaf).....and then maybe that was Bill, could've been some wood nymph from a distance....

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Yeah, Terri! Those are beautiful! I'll be immersed in those three games against Boston also. Last year my grandson was a Yankee in Cal Ripken Majors and they played the championship game against the Red Sox. I knew then that we were going to win, which we did 6-4.
LOVE THOSE YANKEES!!!!!!!! |
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Laura:
I'm not sure which it would be, but I am pretty sure you shouldn't be crossing a shi-tsu and a pit bull. Lee |

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Laura:
It reminds me of the story of Cranapple juice which is a mix of cranberry juice and apple juice. They changed the original name because nobody was willing to buy 'crapple' juice. True story. Well except for the true part. Anyways, if it isn't true, it should be. |
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Terri, Looks like we got that 2 out of 3 and now we're up 71/2 games over the Socks of Red! Wahoooo! And Damon looked mighty happy last night....(and Jeter and the gang)

Thinking deep thoughts about dogs
When I was younger ;) when a purebred dog mated outside of it's gene pool :D it was a mutt, didn't matter if the other dog was a purebred, it was a mutt, and you could get them for free. Nowadays it is called a "designer" dog and you pay out your nose for one, now how did that happen? Do you think "designer" dogs are here to stay or are they just yesterday's mutt in the making? (p.s. there is cuties out there for sure, the Pomapoo is a good example of a cutie patootie!) |
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Hi There,
We don't have squirrels in Oz, but possums are similar...and they cause us grief... Our Chihauhau X dog loves getting out there and harrassing them up trees, but our poor trees look worse for wear...not alot of leaves on them and looking like we could lose one of the older trees...but they seem to love our place, the possums have their little hideout down the back of our garden and breed, breed, breed, Regards Sue |
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Gypsy that is sad for the trees :( I wonder what it would take to make them move? That is natural and not harmful to you or your dog?

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
I'm really bummed out about "Turkey Bacon". I've been putting off trying it for years. It was supposed to be my "ace in the hole" when I wanted to kick my health level up a notch or two. I mean, it's common knowledge that bacon is the best thing ever made, so it's understandable that I had high hopes for this turkey bacon nonsense. My son Daniel said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, so a few weeks ago, I figured I would try some. I was left to my own devices one Sunday afternoon and raced to the grocery store. I grabbed a pack of turkey bacon and threw it into my cart next to the V-8 juice, cranberry juice, walnuts, almonds, avocadoes, and bluebrries. I whipped through the checkout line and raced home and pulled out the 2 pounds of ground beef I had stashed in the fridge and worked it into 4 patties and began slicing a block of cheddar, picturing the awesome bacon cheddar cheeseburgers I was about to create. I grilled the burgers to near perfection as the turkey bacon simmered in a pan on a side burner. "mmm, that's funny, there's no fat or grease leaking out of this bacon. It's sticking to the pan" To make a long story short (I know--too late) I threw half a pound of that god-forsaken turkey bacon on the most awesomest fat cheeseburgers you ever saw and was horribly disappointed. That was 3 weeks ago and I'm still bummed out about it.

HA! Lee. I think the South Park guys told the true Kanye Waste story... if you haven't seen it, look for it. It's pure gold.

Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Whatever happened to Jimmy Page?
|
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Hi WB
He played during the Superbowl. Not sure if this yr or last yr. Also I think I saw him perform with John Mayer, not positive, but fairly certain. |
Re: Totally random thoughts and comments
Jimmy Page is 65 hard years old and has rather fragile health. He spends his time as the chief patron of the Outside the Edge Theater Group which is solely run by addicts and ex-addicts.
