Whatever your doctor said and whatever he thinks, you are both forgetting one thing - it's your body. If you want the port out, schedule it and get it out.
If your cancer returns, you can put it back in. I hate my port and if I wasn't metastatic, I'd have it out. I didn't have it for my first year of treatment for Stage II and also didn't have it for my first chemo after my mets diagnosis, but when they gave me Navelbine I had no choice. That drug is way too harsh on your veins to do without a port. But I would have it out in a heartbeat if I could. Your body, your decision. You don't need to walk around with a remnant of your cancer experience in your body just to make it easy on the doctor and nurses if you don't want to. |
