I guess this goes some way to explaining why growing then re-injecting your own T-cells may not be as effective as we would hope if the cancer cancer can engulf them and change their function.
My onc said that he believes quite a lot of patients have a natural immune response to her 2 bc but a fast growing tumour outstrips the immune systems ability to destroy them.He is also a believer that the micro-environment of the body plays a big part in recurrence, hence some women with large tumours do well and some with smaller ones don't.
I always remember Eric Winer saying that we should throw most of our resources at researching metastasis as once we can cure this we know we can cure early stage!
