Oh shoot Marcia. The program isn't airing here either. I went to set my dvr and it didn't come up. However, there is a program at 11:30 pm about bc survivorship. I dvr's that one, but will look out for In the Family.

Yorkiegirl 10-01-2008 04:14 PM

Steph, it also listed on my chan as Point Of View BUT if you check what it is about it is "The In The Family" that is being talked about.

I will be to watch it. It comes on here at my time at 10:00 PM Central Time.

DanaRT 10-01-2008 06:06 PM

Oh no. It is not on in my area. None of the three (or 4?) PBS HD stations are airing it....

DanaRT 10-01-2008 06:09 PM

nevermind, found it. It is on at 10PM here in the midwest.

Chelee 10-01-2008 09:59 PM

Darn, I can't find it either? I'm in Southern CA & it doesn't seem to be airing here either? I will keep my eyes open...maybe it will be on a different day.

harrie 10-01-2008 11:51 PM

Marcia, will we be seeing you in the program?

In Hawaii it is on at 10:00pm

DanaRT 10-02-2008 05:03 AM

The show was very good. Well done. For some reason my station silenced several brief segments which I found distracting but it was probably to delete names or personal statements. Joanna is a beautiful talented young woman who will continue to succeed in her professional and private life.
I am not sure which woman was you, Marcia? There was a woman featured named Martha...did you alter your name?

Becky 10-02-2008 06:01 AM

I think Marcia was in the calendar portion? Eh - is that right? Featured prior to reconstruction?

DanaRT 10-02-2008 06:29 AM

I bet you're correct. Forgot about the photo shoot segment.

Take care

Sheila 10-02-2008 12:37 PM

Hi Guys, sorry about not answering sooner...I was in New Orleans as a guest of the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery (my Docs) who not only underwrote the airing fo the film on the local PBS station but had a private screening for the monthly support group that they host (EnCourage). They honored me for my involvement in the BC community and being one of their "Big Sisters" to potential patients. I was so honored and never expected to be noticed in the grand sceme of things.
The "INF" program will be available online in its entirety for the month of October at this link...

I was the bald one in the scene at the FORCE gathering in Philadelphia, & dancing in the photo on the FORCE site on Joannas computer screen and.. YES... one of the unreconstructed models and "Playboy costume "comment owner ,LOL..seeing myself so emaciated (after having finished AC/T dose dense just 2 days before) was a shock...I thought I looked pretty good at the time..now I think I looked scary!
Joanna Rudnick is a bright talented and extremely warm loving young woman..her Mom is EXACTLY like her and I love being their friend. My heart breaks in a million pieces every time I watch the film.
Linda Pedraza was my dear dear friend...it will be 3 years in January that we lost her...she was my "person".. and there isnt a day that goes by that I dont think of her ,her children Joey and Nicole and how they might be doing.
Our hope is that there will be families out there who have that "lghtbulb moment and think..."hmm...sounds a bit like my family...I need to look into genetic testing...it has been a tough couple of days emotionally and having had to have my surgical drain put back in yesterday 30 minutes before the screening was to say the least a "Superwoman" moment (felt like Madame DuBois!)
with gratitude for making me feel at home here and understanding my need to "straddle the fence"...
Marcia
PS Dana I have always used my real name for some (naive) reason!LOL

harrie 10-03-2008 12:50 AM

Marcia,
I just finished watching the first 1/2. It is late so I will watch the rest later this weekend.
So far, what I have seen is really good. I find it quite emotional in several of the parts, esp the one where the 3 daughters are tested and 2 of them are positive. My mom was positive, she also had 3 daughters, and I am the only one that tested postive thank goodness.
I am looking forward to viewing the rest of the presentation.

Dear Harrie,
I knew that especially for you and Kimberly Lewis (and her daughter) it would touch chords inside of you...I wish that I could reach out and hug you all.
The documentary focuses on the life altering choices BRCA+ carriers must face. So heartbreaking to have to considering removing healthy body parts because your RISK is skyhigh. With this new era of medicine and predictive testing there have come difficult choices and if one wants to know there status, one must have a game plan to deal with the information they recieve.
Please watch the rest Harrie and let me know what you think.
FORCE chat rooms and toll free helpline are open 24/7 for next few days..

Its important to note that although it is rare to be both BRCA+ and Her2+ I have seen a marked increase of women AND men over the past 7 years.

Thank you to all of my freinds here at Her2support for your support and always unconditional love.

It is 8:00pm here and I plan to watch the second half shortly. I know that even if I do carry the gene, I expect the course of the disease to be much different then the course my mother had to go through. It has been 15 yrs since my first experience with DCIS and my first 15 yrs compared to what my mother went through her first 15 yrs is almost like opposite ends of the spectrum. I am not exaggerating.

harrie 10-04-2008 12:06 AM

Hi Marcia,
I just finished watching the documentary. Joanna did an exceptional job! It was very comprehensive and showed so many different angles of how the gene can effect lives and relationships. I could feel and appreciate the honesty the came out in all those people and families whose lives were affected by the gene and the disease. It was a film filled with not only a lot of facts and experiences, but she was also very successful in protraying the love and emotions.
I could tell she worked very hard on it and when you talk to Joanna, could you please tell her for me that I said congratulations on a fantastic job in producing her masterpiece. Also, please tell her thank you. In watching the documentary, and seeing and hearing how it effected others, I know it brought out feelings that were buried inside myself.
My mother was not alive at the time I found out I had the gene. Emotions run very strong when you know you are the one responsible for passing on the gene to your child. For that reason, I am extremely confident that she will always be looking out for me.
I cried a whole lot of tears from watching the film. They are good tears.
Thanks for letting me know about it. I would have missed it for sure.
Love,
Maryanne

What an incredible experience to wake this morning in my little RV home outside of San Antonio (treatment yesterday) at 4 am & find Marcia, Joanne, and the story so many face on PBS. I cried through almost the whole thing. What burden's are carried with the knowledge of this information. It was so well done and so important for teaching others about what is known today to help prevent the experiences of cancer. Hat's Off to you all for what you have done and shared. So important...so touching. ma

Soccermom 10-04-2008 10:37 AM

I am humbled by your kind accolades as I know Joanna will be.
If just one person views the film and takes action ...

Oh Harrie, I am glad that the documentary has perhaps helped you to heal..I would love to be able to give you a gigunda hug right now and I would whisper "I understand" in your ear...and I do.

MA, you might be interested to know that the FORCE gathering in the documentary was after the 3 day of Era of Hope conference (Dept of Defence BC conf). We had all flown in to be present when the results of a study that we had collaborated in (with the University of Pennsylvania) was posted. It was a very emotional week. I left my group took a taxi to the New Jersey shore and visited with my Mother who was at the end of her 14 year battle with breast cancer...she died 6 weeks later. She asked where my hair was (it had been waist length) and I lied...I never told her I was in treatment and her mind was so fragile she didnt question my answers..
We are all one big family fighting for the same thing..where is our CURE?

Hugs,Marcia

Mary Anne in TX 10-04-2008 01:35 PM

AMEN! Cure, where are you? We're still here waiting and fighting. ma
