Hi everybody,
I recently had a blood test and my WBC is still below the normal range. It has been over a year since I've had any treatments and I would have thought that my WBC would be normal by now. I feel great and all my other blood work is fine.
How long did it take for your WBC to return to normal?
Thanks for your responses!

hi there from another stage IIIC.
My wbcs are still a bit low. it's common after chem, and my onc says sometimes they never bounce back totally. i am good with that.

I am still below normal and will probably stay that way. Normal is 4 and I am 3.6.

Mine are a little low too. No concern from my docs. Unintended side effects of chemo is what I've heard on patient forums.

Me too, always low (usually in the 3K range). However, I have not been sick more than normal -- rarely more than a few mild colds a year. So I figure my immune system must still be capable of mounting a good response, when needed. And that's what's important.
During treatment, I was neutropenic a lot (lots of neupogen). My onc said I was "one of the worst" in this regard. I don't know if that's connected to ongoing low WBCs.

Thanks for your responses ladies! It is reassuring to know that it isn't unusual to have low wbc. I guess I was thinking they would return to normal after treatments were over. Thanks again. You all have eased my mind!

yes, my WBC counts run low now, so I think of it as just another "new normal" for me!!! I am not sick much, never was sick much before BC. I "come down" with things like severe osteoporosis, breast cancer, appendicitis...!!!!!
