I don't understand why you can't have salad. Can you elaborate?

Agree with Amy, I don't understand why you can't have salad either.

Several sites suggest no raw veggies for fear of contamination. I was told by my nutritionist it depends on immune system levels. It turns out I was able to eat them. Make sure you keep up with your blood test results after your infusions so you understand how careful you need to be.

Hey dogleg. This is the first time i have ever heard this.
What do you mean you "cant" have a salad?

Does it taste bad? or do you have a physical reaction?

i think what is causing some confusion is when were neutropenic
( low white counts from chemo) we should not any have any raw or uncooked foods, ie; salads, due to our immune comprised state (we can't fight off bacteria so well)

If our counts are fine we can have salads, etc.
while in tx always ask for your WBC count.

If you buy organic foods and still wash with FIT, or homemade wash, you can have all the salad you want!

I was told to avoid buffets because of all the germs on the handles and possible cross- contamination.

You can still eat salad if you wash it at home. I stupidly ate at a salad bar during chemo and that night was in the hospital for four days. Personally, I avoided eating out all together after that experience.
