This is a new study, and I believe a significant one. When surgery is performed on the tumor, the specimen is sent to the lab and one learns soon enough if clear margins were achieved. With ablation, the surgeon would like to keep at least 1 cm of clean tissue around ablation, and that should include clear margins. The strategy is: take two biopsies during ablative therapy: one pre-ablation and one post (same surgery). Results will determine whether clean margins were had, that is, if tumor cells are not found in the second biopsy after the ablation.
It is believed that they GOT IT ALL according to the PET/CT, you know, dancing eyes, glowing faces, relieved demeanor/s, but the real truth lies in the lab. Where there microscopic cells post ablation? Waiting for result, but I think NOT...I know NOT!
