Glad to hear our dear Sheila is no longer suffering. There is a giving tree in our local Towne Center, where I shall put gifts for the needy in Sheila's name.
Jen -
Now it comes time for you to rebuild your life without your mom's physical presence. Just always remember that her spirit is with you, and you will feel her soft touch on your shoulder from time to time. Be open to "loving presences" and they will reveal themselves.

Jen, Sorry to hear about your Mom- she will be missed. Like StephN said, now is the time to try and learn what it is like to have a parent in spirit. My own Mom died 2 years ago this spring- and I've learned to share my life with her as best I can though I can't see or hear her words. She is always with you because you are a part of her. God bless,

Jen,
I'm so very sorry for the pain you are feeling. I lost my mom a few years ago, and someone gave me a poem.
The idea was that a loved one leaving us, is like a boat sailing off into the horizon...
as the people on the side she's leaving catch their last glimpse of her and say sadly, "There she goes"...
the people on the other side of the horizon catch their first glimpse of her and shout, "Here she comes!"
I still get great comfort when I think of all the people who love my mom and were waiting for her on the other side. It helps me to know that when I cross over...she'll be waiting, and overjoyed to welcome me too.
You have rough days ahead, no doubt about it. But you have Sheila's genes...and more importantly, her spirit. You can do it. You'll go on, remembering your mom, loving her, and caring for those she loves...especially Jazzy and Sheila's beloved Jen.
Thank you so much for sharing Sheila's final days with us. I will miss her so much...but it would have been much harder if you hadn't helped us to ease into her transition. I appreciate your generous spirit.
All the best to you, and to your family
With love,
Denise

I feel as though you mom is standing holding the hands of the women that have just gone on before her. They are all our special guides and angels. Lois

Jen, Carry with you the love and wonderfulness your mother gave you. I was privileged to spend a weekend with your mother in 2009(?) at Breastfest. My gosh, I so respected her knowledge and compassion of Her2. At that time, I was convinced I needed to be in a Neratnib trial. Sheila was a wealth of information including the correct pronunciation(!)...we laughed at the way I said the word. Gone too soon, tremendously honored to have known such a wonderful woman. Glad her fight is over, extremely sad that you've lost your momma. I truly repsected her. xo

Dear Jen,
I'm so sorry. I wish with all my heart you could have been spared the pain of this loss.
Thank you for keeping our community informed and sharing this time with us. Thank you, also, for trusting us with your feelings and reaching out. I hope we were able to help you.
My mom died a long time ago. I still feel her presence sometimes, though. I know she's helping me as much as she can. I see her in my children.
Sheila's strength, compassion, wisdom, and kindness will live on. She was such a good friend to so many of us.
I like the random act of kindness idea. I agree that the best way to honor Sheila's memory is to make a practice of being kinder than necessary. Everyone is, indeed, fighting some kind of battle.
I hope you will remember that we love you too and will help you any way that we can.
Stay in the light,

I received a message this morning I wanted to share with you.
Like Sheila did, I have been getting up and leaving in the predawn hours for the 75 mile drive for chemo (mine is at UCSF) for years.
This morning on my way out I walked into the driveway to get the paper. It was cold and clear and of course very dark. I couldn't pick up the paper because, when I looked down, I saw that I was standing on it! When I finally figured out how to get my foot off the newspaper (ok, I don't drink coffee before the 1 1/2 hour drive). I grabbed it and stood up to see the brightest shooting star I had ever seen. Usually I wonder if I had imagined seeing it...but not this time. It soared brightly and almost purposefully for what seemed like several seconds and covered at least four inches of looking-at-the-sky distance. Doesn't sound like much when I say it like that, but it was a long way.
My mouth dropped open and I actually gasped when I saw it. Then unbidden, two words burst from my mouth all alone out in the driveway: THANKYOU. and SHEILA.
Here in the infusion room 5 hours later it sounds sort of WOO WOO and a bit Santa Cruz-y. But that's exactly what happened.
I love Sheila like a sister and will miss her dearly...but now I will always think of her soaring across the early morning sky. And somehow tricking me into stepping on the newspaper so I would look up at just the right moment to see it.

Thank you Chrisy for telling us this. Sheila was/is spectacular and powerful.
Sheila's husband my brother, sister and I met at the funeral home to go over final arrangements I asked if Mom had been creamated yet and they said "No she is downstairs" I asked if I could see her one last time they said yes so I got to kiss her one last time and touch her face and tell her how much she is loved and will be missed. She looked like she was sleeping and at peace.
She is sleeping and at peace my dear Jen, be sure of that.

I have just returned from a business trip and came on only to find out this news. I knew it was coming but my heart is broken, broken in two.
Sheila was on this board before me and I joined in 2004. Sheila and I were roommates at SABCS many, many times. I got to know her very well in our travels and I truly love her as a sister. She was there for everybody on this board and I know she worried and cared for us more than herself but not more than her family. She was truly an amazing woman. I have not stopped crying for the last hour since I read that Sheila passed on and that she has been gone for two days and I didn't even know.
I have dreaded this day for your family and for us because Sheila was so incredible. She taught me to never give up and that something wonderful could be just around the corner if you would only look. I was so fortunate to have met Sheila and was able to really know her year after year. You were lucky to always have her and we (and I) were lucky to have her alittle bit.
I will never forget Sheila. Her spirit and tenacity. She never gave up and made everyone feel they could do anything. I loved her so much.

Sad, scared, heartbroken
Melanie, I had the honor and the pleasure of meeting Shiela's family today at the funeral home. Jennifer's heart is obviously broken as is the rest of her family. Shiela is so loved! What a wonderful large family she has. What good people they are. She had such a full and beautiful life. I will be thinking and praying for Shiela, her daughter Jennifer and all of her loving family as she is taken to her final resting place this morning. Gods blessings to the whole family this day. May the peace of the Lord be with them always. Your friend, Nancy

Nancy, Thanks and glad you were able to go yesterday for the visitation and prayers. My apologies for not getting back to you earlier. Donna and I plan to be there this morning. I don't know that/if anyone else from HER2support can go (almost everyone being a very long distance from Morris/IL). But we can hopefully represent in small part how important she has been here and to so many others. Peace, Melanie

Everyone here should know that the priest in the funeral/memorial mass mentioned this group as a major place where Sheila had positive input. And I am told we (you) are family. Nancy was there Sunday for visitation (I think a 6 hour trip) and Donna and I today for the mass and the meal afterwards. Those of Sheila's family we talked to knew of this group. So please know you are cherished (considered as family) ...and that her contribution to us is understood. Melanie
Thank you Nancy, Melanie and Donna for your presence while we mourned Sheila's passing/celebrated her life. I was truly humbled and honored to meet you special gals. Myself and the rest of the family appreciated you sharing what Mom meant to you and how she touched your lives. Mom wanted to be remembered for how much she helped others even through this terrible disease.

Your mum has certainly got her wish. There are just so many that she has helped all over the world. What a legacy to leave.

Dear Jen -
Thanks so much for sharing those photos. I also took a few moments to listen that that AWESOME video.
Seeing the urn drove home the realization to me that Sheila will only be here in spirit. I will miss you so much, dear friend.
Steph I know Mom touch the lives and became "family" to countless on this site from all over the world who could not be there so I figured taking these pictures and sharing them with her Her2 family would be welcomed. Sheila loved you guys as much as you loved her.

I just saw this today. I am so sorry, I am so saddened by this news. May she RIP. Always remembered, never forgotten. Sandra
I was checking the board as I always do when there's doubt or ignorance on my part on a subject matter
And I see this message. My heart just shrunk and sadness in my head and tears in my eyes
Your mom had always a positive attitude even it was bad news. She answered a couple of my threads
I miss her . I offer my condolescens to all of you. She was a fighter, should be proud of that.
Pardon me but damn i hate this decease!
Love to you. Peace in 2013 as you recover from lour loss

Jenn I'm late coming in here but thank you for posting the pics, it was sad but also helped me get some closure, I was so fond of your Mom and think she felt the same and we chatted often about my life here in Ireland. xx I'll miss her too!

Jen, you have my heartfelt sympathy. I know this journey was difficult for you, but hold all your fond memories close to your heart and cherish them forever. Sheila was very special to all of us too. Her previous signature had an expression about dancing (I don't know why it just escaped my mind just now). I know she is not suffering and is dancing in peaceful paradise somewhere over the rainbow. I pray for her soul and her memory. And acts of Kindness in Sheila's Honor will be done---what a wonderful idea. Bless you Jen. Hugs, Joanne S

Jen, let me first extend my condolences to you and the entire family and say how sorry I am for your loss. I will never forget how kind, thoughtful and caring your mother was. She was one of the first to reach out to me when I first joined the amazing Her2 Support Forum. We lunched together and shared our stories both about cancer as well as about our families. As you know helping others and family were most important to her and no matter what she was dealing with, she always had the time to help others. Sheila was a true inspiration to all and while she will be missed terribly, I am happy she is at peace and not suffering. I am sure she has joined the other Her2 angels and will be watching over all. So sorry this is so delayed, I don't check in as regularly as I should, but I did notice the silence that existed from your mom.
