I had chemo (about:blank#) scheduled for today but my white blood cell count was too low. My question is what can I do to keep my counts up? I do get a shot after a get chemo (about:blank#), but I guess I need an extra boost. Also my stomach makes such loud grogleling noises. It's so loud other people can hear it and it does it alot (about:blank#) and was wondering if anyone's else had this stomach problem.
thanks for any help!!!

Valleygirl,

My oncologist told me to eat yogurt when I complained about my stomach issues during chemotherapy. Because the good bacteria needed for digestion was depleted by chemo, I needed yogurt to help replenish them.

As for the white blood cell count, I don't know any better way except the booster shots my oncologist had prescribed. Some claim that mushrooms such as Ganoderma lucidum (which I took during my chemo in 2007) will help. I think a balanced meal is very important. Drink ensure/protein supplement should be helpful.

Have you talked to your oncology nurse about your concerns?

I agree with Jackie. My nutrition counselor recommended one Stonyfield yogurt each day. I mix in some granola from Whole Foods. Avoid fried, breadcrumbed, and processed foods. Avoid sugar. The more natural and wholesome your diet, the better. I also gave up red meats and I notice a huge change in the way I feel and look.
Feel good,
Karen
