Starting Navelbine Monday, have questions.

Hi all! My scans on Monday showed that I have progression in my liver, though I'm stable everywhere else. So, we're abandoning the Taxol, which has run its course for now, and the Carboplatin, which didn't really do much of anything the last eight weeks, and I'm starting Navelbine on Monday. I'll continue the Herceptin weekly and Zometa once a month. I guess my questions are...if any of you have had taxol and carbo, how does Navelbine compare to those as far as side effects? Or even if you haven't had the taxol or carbo, nut you've had Navelbine, what's your experience been? I'm looking forward to changing therapies, and hoping that the Navelbine kicks some cancer butt right outta my liver, but of course, I'm nervous about starting a new chemo! Any info you can give me is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance! :-)

I went from Taxol to Navelbine....I found Navelbine to be quite easy. I no longer needed pre meds (yeah) and it seems the only issues I had were constipation, which is common, and a little fatigue...no nausea. I did take Nexium for indigestion while on it.

Hoping it is a easy drug for you...after Taxol/Carbo, it should be a welcome relief!

Thank you both! Great to hear that Navelbine was easier than taxol. Taxol seemed to be a breeze to me (after I added the Carboplatin to the taxol, anyway, and had something to compare the taxol to! Carbo is mean!) I did do a search and read the posts on the thread you posted, Jackie, before I posted the new thread, which was helpful, but I'm so glad to hear a comparison from someone who had one of the chemo drugs I was already on to have an idea of how Navelbine compares! Thanks again!

Agreed that Navelbine was very manageable!!

I was prepared for constipation but did not have anything severe. I hardly knew I was receiving treatment. YEA!!!!

Navelbine did not appear to do much for me, but by that time my Onc. began to believe there was something happening around my tumor area in the liver that was precluding the chemo from getting where it needed to be. (hence the liver resection)

But...I digress....back to the original question. Be encouraged, this one is easy. I am confident that you will be able to proceed with a very active lifestyle.

I am on navelbine/herceptin/tykerb. I have had mild nausea, but usually 1 zofran a day takes care of it. I do have some fatigue, and it knocks my white cells down. I had to do neupegen shots after my third treatment. I start my second set of three weekly treatments on Wednesday and am hoping I don't have to do the shots again! Overall it is a cakewalk compared to the a/c taxotere I did last summer. Good luck!
