Intrathecal Herceptin Is Working!

Just got the call from my oncologist that, after only two treatments of intrathecal Herceptin over the past 5 weeks, all four of my new brain mets have shrunk and there are no new ones! IT IS WORKING!!!!

We are going to continue with the once monthly treatments and will probably scan again in another 6 weeks to see where we are at. Looks like I get to dodge the whole brain radiation bullet once again. Thank you GOD!!!!

I share your joy and am so pleased for you! I have a question. For others that may be interested, is this now a conventional treatment? Or is this a clinical trial? Or is this an "off label" use of Herceptin? Just curious; do you know?

Good question, Kim. Its an off-label use. Its been done many times before and there are case studies out there showing complete CNS remission with use of Intrathecal Herceptin. Apparently there are clinical trials coming in the US. But I couldn't wait for that. I had to get these things under control stat.

In other good news - my latest PET/CT shows dramatic reductions in my existing lung, skin and bone mets. Liver is still in good shape. NED here I come...
