Somehow I find it comforting to know that my cancer diagnosis was just the result of random bad luck...

I remember the diagnosing doctor saying to me "these are the cards you were dealt".
And it helped when insensitive people said things to me about what I probably did that "caused" my cancer.
It is my belief that everyone in life has card dealt. No one escapes unscathed. You just play them the best you can.

It is indeed an excellent article.

I drew the bad lot being the youngest of six and inheriting bad genes from both of my parents.

I am lucky to have been pampered by my family because I am the youngest and was born premature.

I am even 'luckier' to have come to the states and always have good doctors when I need them.

That said, I do believe that taking an active role in our health care and our life is essential to our well-being and happiness.

Studies have shown patients who are engaged in support group fare better than those who fight the ailment alone. I think information exchange is a major factor besides the obvious benefit of emotional support.

So true. We all can improve the health choices we make in life, but none of us "deserves" to be fighting cancer. I don't know how many people i have met over the years that never took care of themselves and they have no health concern out of the ordinary. All you can do is take the body you are given and do the best you can to nourish it and exercise it!

The Tornados seem to be the bad Luck of the Draw this spring. Do any of our members live in these devasted areas? My heart goes out to anyone who has lost a loved one or lost their home.
