Hello,

I need some advice.

I had radiation about 9 years ago on my right breast which had silicone implant in it. The implant now has a capsule around it.

I do not want the latissimus dorsi flap surgery.

I want the capsulectomy surgery but was told by one doctor that I can't because of the radiation I received. I also want to go back to my regular smaller size.

Has anyone had this type of surgery after radiation. If so, what were the results? How are you now?

If I have a reduction in my breast size will that help because some of the tissue/sin will not be needed?

thanks

I have had 2 capsulectomies... but I did not have radiation to the area at all as initial treatment. I had 'simple' reconstruction.

Perhaps they are thinking that there is not enough skin to sew back together after the scar tissue removal and implant replacement. That happened on my second one, and my surgeon used an Alloderm graft. http://www.breastreconstruction.org/InTheNews/AlloDerminBreastReconstruction.html

Ask your surgeon if Alloderm might be useful in yours.
