Sheila's sister (my aunt) called this morning and said they were going to try and see if they could remove the breathing tube today and she was reaching for pen and paper to write with. Things are still touch and go so please continue to pray that God gives her the strength to fight this and recover. I joined this board a few years back because I know how much you guys mean to my Mom as well as to each other. Mom told me a long time ago she was glad I joined this site and to update you guys about whats going on when she couldn't. Unfortunately this is one of those times. I know my Mom is a fighter as all of you are. Please continue to lift her up in your warm thoughts and prayers. I pray that someday soon she will be able to come on here and see all of the love you guys have for her as she has for all of you. I will continue to update as the updates become available.

Last night when they did the CT scans at the first hospital they did not see any new cancer but her lungs were in really bad shape.

Jen,
I was sad to hear that your mom is facing another struggle. It is just like your mom to make arrangements to keep us all updated. I so appreciate the updates.

Sounds like your mom will benefit from from TLC in the hospital. If her lungs are weak, some oxygen and breathing treatments should help. Glad that there doesn't appear to be new cancer.

Your mom is such a trooper, I can imagine that she would push herself a little too hard.

Thank you for keeping us posted and please let her know we are thinking of her.

Hugs to Sheila and her family.....Lori

Just talked to Mom and told her about all your love and prayers and to be strong and get better. Mom asked me if I had called Dr. Hammerberg's office and cancelled Jazzy's doctor appointment for tomorrow (Mom was going to take us up there Thursday). That is how my Mom is always thinking of others around her even at a time like this. She is truly an amazing woman and an inspiration to all of us. Mom also told me she really wants to get out of the ICU. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers so she can get what she wants.

Thanks for the update. I know your mom well as we've been roomies on San Antonio a couple of times - and I "helped" her Christmas shop there this year. Sheila is always in my thoughts - really all the time. I love her so much and will be calling on all the prayer warriors now

Just like a nurse to want out of the ICU! Tell your ma that I totally love her and just know she is gonna kick this newest "event" aside. Will keep praying. Much relief that she is responding so well. Now the question of what caused things. The chemo? It can bring on ARDS. The Halaven was going so well hoping it was not the cause. Need our Sheila kicking butt and taking prisoners!

Jen,

Please tell your Mom that I have had her in my thoughts and prayers since Laurel e-mailed. Sheila is my "visual" miracle since San Antonio when we literally watched her skin mets receding on Halaven. Hope she can feel all the love and strength being sent her way.

Talked to Mom again tonight she said the team at Rush didn't think it was ARDS but all this could have been caused by blood pressure. It is truly heart warming to see all the love you guys have for my Mom. She knows that all of you are lifting her up in your thoughts and prayers and said you guys were a wonderful group that is very special to her. I am hoping she is well enough to come on here soon to see all the out pouring of love, prayers and concern you have for her. I can't thank you enough for all the love, prayers and kind words you have given to us at this time. As always continue to lift her up with your love and prayers as it DOES make a difference!!

Jen,
I have not been on the board the last few days and just reading about your Mother....I was upset but as I read along the thread, the tube was out, she is progressing, a sigh of relief was felt.

As you already know your Mother is a very special lady,
one who never ever complains, is always positive and is a true leader to many of us.

Prayers will be said and please tell she is deeply loved.

I just talked to Mom she didn't get chemo yesterday and said the doctors don't think it's working because that stuff is coming back on her neck. She also said the doctors think she had a flash pulmonary edema but don't know what caused it she is on oxygen now. I pray the doctors can figure out what is going on so it doesn't happen again and also figure out something with the chemo or possibly try something else that might work. Please continue your love and prayers for my Mom. That is all I know right now and will update if I hear anything new or anything changes.

Sheila, you've been here for all of us even as you have gone through unbelievable difficulties in your life in addition to your health challenges. You have carried such a heavy load with grace and class.

When I read your posts I always think how fortunate your family and friends are to have such an amazing woman in their lives, and what an honour it would be to know you.

Although I don't post often I just had to say that, along with everyone else, I am wishing and hoping and sending all the positive vibes I can for better health and happiness for you - for a long time to come.

Don't know how to thank you all enough for all the love and prayers during this recent health scare. Probably a good thing that I don't remember the ambulance ride, the helicopter life flight ride to Chicago, but I do remember waking up on a ventilator....truly not pleasant! Now out of ICU, and still having tests, IVs and all the other hospital goodies....I have a new appreciation for anyone on a ventilator, an experience I never want again...hoping to recover so I can get back to getting treatments as I have missed 3 now and my neck shows it. You are all such a blessing to me, notnonly at times like this, but every day on this journey. Although I have never personally met most ofnyou, you are dear friends to me and I cherish each and every one of you.
much love and a big thanks....sorry I gave my family such a scare...when they loaded me on the helicopter, the Drs did not think I'd make it....they said itnwould be nothing short of a miracle, yet here I am....the power of prayer!

I haven't been able to be online for awhile, so just read these posts today with a heavy heart, tears and prayers at first, then joy as I read all 5 pages, and knew things are better. Thank you so much, Jen, for keeping us informed, and Thank you, Sheila, for letting us know you are better. If you had any doubt how much you are loved, you should know it now. You are one of my heroes--in fact as I finally felt well enough today to get on the site, my first thought was to ask you about how halaven is working for you, as I have now had to stop my third chemo try. Sheila I am so relieved and happy! When I came out of the hospital I just intended to look if everybody was OK and saw Jen's post. I put in a small word for you but I was so upset and down that this was happening to you. It seemed so unfair. I thought of you all time. I just can't stand the idea of you with a breathing tube. Again, thank you all so much for the support, love and prayers, there is no doubt in my mind that is why I am still here to type this. Got home late yesterday. The only diagnosis the specialists can come up with was a pneumonia and flash pulmonary edema, a rare occurence from a sudden spike in B/P. As I am piecing more together, I evidently collapsed and quit breathing after feeling like my lungs filled with fluid, and was bagged until the ER when they placed me on a ventilator. Since I am not a fan of vents or helicopters, glad I do not remember anything...I do remember the scary feeling of not being able to breathe as my lungs rapidly filled, and nothing after that. Thank heavens for the Diprovan, which I of course called the Michael Jackson drug they gave me. Go back to see the oncologist next Tuesday, to see if I will stay on the Halaven...i have missed 3 now and my neck is showing it. On an up note, my white counts have recovered quite nicely. Ordered to now keep low key for a while, and hope to get my sea legs back....I feel like I have been drug through a knot hole....so thankful again for all your prayers and support, that is why you are all part of my Her2 FAMILY!, and it is a FAMILY!
Much Love
Sheila

Great to hear you bounced back! Keep bouncing back, but please remember you don't have to prove anything to us. So enough already with the heroics! You scared us with tales of helicopters and ventilators.

Keep getting better & may the Halaven work it's miracle once more.

Love

Wow! what a story to read....a cliffhanger really! Those doctors that thought you wouldn't make it just simply don't know you - a tough fighter who has been at it a long, long time! So grateful this story has a good ending and will continue! Keep going Sheila! And thank you Jen for your posts, that was a wonderful thing you did!

Love to you, Donna

Sometimes I am afraid to check in on the forum for fear of finding out something too sad. However, if I don't check in from time to time I also miss the wonderful postings as well. Sheila, no more scares please. You are way too important to all of us here and mean so much to all of your sisters here. Please get stronger with each day and fight with all I know you possess. You are one of the strongest and most positive person I have had the pleasure of meeting. Get well quick so we can finally get back to lunching again, been too long. You are in my prayers. Thanks Jen for doing such a great job at keeping everyone up to date but so sorry you had to do so. Sheila we are all rooting for you and I know you are going to bounce back in record time.

I hope it's nothing serious...maybe just needs a few antibiotic's or something. I sure know alot of ppl that have been sick lately...maybe she picked up a bug of some sort? Plus I don't think Shelia ever stops does she. Maybe this will force her to rest! I will be keeping her in my thoughts and prayers. Get well sooon Shelia. Sending lots of love and hugs. Jen...thank YOU so much for letting us know about your Mom. We so appreciate it.

Sorry I haven't been able to post sooner had to go to an IEP meeting for Jazzy this morning at the school. Talked to Mom a little bit ago she said her counts were OK, quick Strep test was - they think it's viral so they didn't give her any antibiotics. Thet sent her home last night and she is just taking it easy and resting. I will post if anything changes but I am praying that she will just keep feeling better. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers and for being a great support to her as it really means alot to all of us.
