could you please tell me how long it took to get the results back? On 1-4-11 I had a bone biopsy of my ilium since PET showed increase uptake. I was told the results would be back in under two wks. It's almost 4 wks now and still no answers? When I've called to find out if there in yet...they just keep telling me someone will get back to me & let me know what's going on with it...but they never do. Their suppose to call me again tomorrow but I have heard that for two wks now.

For those of you that have had a bone biopsy...what was the turn around time for your results?

Chelee,

I can only guess that they got behind since it was done right after the long holiday. According to this link, the result should be available after juat a few days:

On 2nd thought - since I'm staring at your treatment history right at this moment- your femur biopsy back in May last year states "Results to FISH was unsuccessful - this happens less than 2% of the time." Perhaps the lab is having a hard time with your sample again.

Waiting is just such a torture...

Thank you Jackie! The link you posted says the same thing I read when I did a search. It says a few days to a wk at most. This is going on 4 wks...that's why I was hoping someone on this board has ran into this before? Maybe it takes longer depending on where they send the sample...and what tests are ran on it?

As to my femur biopsy that sample was taken from a large mass they removed from my femur in Nov. 09 at City of Hope. Then later in May I went out to consult with Dr. Slamon and he wanted my entire tumor block from that surgery sent to USC. I was told that there were too many calcification in that tumor block...or it had not been handled properly? Back to my ilium...it was a straight bone biopsy to that area using CT scan...so it seems there should not of been a problem? But anything is possible. The sample was sent to "Caris"...maybe it's time I call them? It seems like I'm the only one that has waited this long?

Were they doing a bone marrow biopsy I presume...if so, the results should have been there in 48 hours...3 days max...I'd be calling someone...4 weeks is WAY too long!

Shelia,
It was just a bone biopsy...not the marrow. My last PET showed that bone met on my ilium is acting up now. Uptake last time was 15.9 so the onc wanted to biopsy it first and then decide trt.

I got a call from the onc's office today that the results are in. The timing of it is interesting? The minute the onc's office found out I called the place that did that actually biopsy...and was told it should only take about 3 days for the results...now they have them suddenly? (Maybe just a coincidence?) Just glad they turned up and I can move on. Thank you all for the replies.
