I received an early Christmas gift today. I found out that my 11 cm liver tumor, after 4 rounds of Taxotere and 2 rounds of Taxotere and Carboplatin, plus weekly Herceptin, has shrunk to 5 cm. I also had a 2 cm tumor that was not visible on the Pet Scan. I remained clear everywhere else.

I also found out that the suv value dropped from 5 to 2. I know that this is a good sign, as my onc was very happy about it, but don't really know what the significance of it is. So if the tumor is not as active, does it mean that it is dying?

I have also been taking a lot of supplements that people here have reccomended ( with my onc's ok) and have been trying to follow a healthy diet( trying is the operative word, as dealing with the side effects from the chemo and having to cook for my three kids makes it somewhat difficult).

I will be going to Mayo next month to see if I can have a procedure done to remove what is left of the tumor.

Laurie,
That is great news! The TCH is doing a wonderful job kicking cancers butt. Woo hoo. Yes, you are correct...the lower SUV rate along with your tumors shrinking that much does mean it's dying! :) Your getting a fantastic results from your chemo just in time for Christmas. Way to go.

Don't be hard on yourself about what your eating right now. When your still doing chemo the most important thing is to make sure your eating. Once your finished with chemo then you can work harder at eating better. For now eat what tastes good and enjoy what you can. :) Congrats on your good results.
