Is it safe to just stop taking Tamoxifin one day and start with Femara?

Hello Everyone,

I was on Femara, but after starting my period two months ago, I switched to Tamoxifin. I had a full hysterectomy on Monday, with the goal of getting me back on Femara. My question is this....can I just stop taking the Tamoxifin and begin taking the Femara or do I need to wean myself off in any way. I called my onc's office to ask this question, and spoke with her nurse, who didn't seem too sure with her answer, which didn't give me any warm fuzzies. So, I called my pharmacist and she said she wasn't sure either and that she thinks my doctor needs to chime in, but I haven't been able to get through to her. So, I thought I would ask all the wonderful people on this board because I am sure some of you know the answer to this.

This also happened to me (but I only had an oophorectomy - but the uterus doesn't contribute to estrogen production). I could stop Tamoxifen and start right on Arimidex. That's what I did.

I think my onc. wanted me to wait one week between stopping Tamox. and starting Femara. Can't really remember exactly .. chemo brain strikes again!!

I went from Tamoxifen right to Femara (if memory serves). I have no idea if it was a good move or not.....too late to fret about it now. Please let us know what your onc. says. Thanks!
