MRI v.s Bonescan, which is more accurate

Hello,

My wife MRI shows cancer in two of the ribs, yet the bone scan shows everything is normal. Anyone have any idea which one is more accurate? Many thanks.

I always thought that a PET/CT was the most accurate but I am not sure at all. I thought bone scans "light up" with metabolic abnormalities (broken bones healing, arthiritis, cancer etc). What does the doctor say?

I think it might depend on the type of breast cancer?

I have heard that with ILC what I have, that MRI's are more accurate

I think an MRI shows more detail than a bone scan. A bone scan can light up for various kinds of bone problems. A Pet/CT scan is good, because it can tell if a bone problem is cancer.

Yes definetly, MRI's are the gold tool in determining bone mets opposed to bone scans. This too also happened to me. Ct scan picked up something, so my Onc ordered a bone scan-which did not show anything. My Onc then ordered a MRI and it should the same thing as the Ct scan.
