Tanya,
I read this today with concern. How do you interpert these findings as releated to fresh fruit? I eat several servings a day. Maybe I should not.

I don't know what Tanya thinks about this, but I think the important idea is to limit "refined" sugars whether they be glucose or fructose. That means we should limit things like soda, syrups, desserts and additives containing "refined" glucose and fructose. Fresh fruit and vegetables have alot of antioxidants and other beneficial things that might help keep our bodies strong and working well. In fact fresh, unprocesssed fruits and vegetables can help the immune system (white blood counts) and can be a plus for those taking chemotherapies that reduce the white blood counts.

Very nice !! Dieticians, nutritionists, naturopaths and integrative medicine specialists suggest we eat a very colorful diet. The God's pharmacy theory sort of goes along with that. My naturopath always reminds me to eat sweet potatoes (I am not a big potato eater.) I try to eat small amounts of a variety of colors of vegetables and fruits everyday.

I have been eating fresh sweet cherries daily because I have gout. Along with those I would also eat maybe a bananna, blueberries, and a pear or apple. I have also been drinking some grape juice. I think I have been eating too much of the sweet fruits. The article really gave me pause.

Jackie, I think the "sweet potato a day" recommendation is excellent suggestion. I have heard that a sweet potato is the most "perfect" food because it contains so many vitamins and nutrients.

I looked back on the posts and found one where Rich had posted several research articles that seemed to suggest that a low carb (Dr. Atkins almost) diet could help to starve cancer cells. I think there is research going on now according to his posts.

Thank you again for your input. I agree with you, Elaine, that a colorful diet should be the most healthy.

I read this report when it came out too. Fortunately, I do not interpret the results to mean that we should avoid fruit. Fruit is not comprised of fructose alone but instead offers antioxidants, phytochemicals and fiber-all of which are known to be anti-cancer. I think the message the article/study is sending is a repeat of what we already know with a little added detail in regards to pancreatic tumor cells. We already know that a diet high in sugar is not healthful. I have no doubt that high fructose corn syrup is not good for us. I recommend a diet very low in processed foods which eliminates most HFCS.

Thank you so much for you input. Avoiding fruit just goes against everything I thought I knew about nutrition. However, I know that fructose is the form of sugar found in all fruits, and this article and some others seem adamant about avoiding it. We have a garden and my husband grows veggies year round. Normally, at least 90% of the food we eat is in its natural state. I have even quit cooking casseroles because of the added sauces, canned soups, crackers, etc. I prepare foods very plainly just adding olive oil to some veggies. Thank you again for straightening me out!
