Have read here of some people who use co-enzyme-q10 to improve their heart function. I am on two different tablets at the moment to help my heart function go up from 45 so that I can go back on herceptin. Which particular co-enzyme-q10 is best to use? Seems to be different ones in the shops. Also is it safe to use while on chemotherapy - taxotere (and herceptin when I can get heart working properly). Grateful for any information. Thanks.

Hi, I have had the same problem. I have been taking coq-10 for over a year. I take coQ -10- 400 once a day. My onc has me on Enalaprial. I got my MUGA up to 59. I also lost weight and exercised. Not sure what it is now, my weight is ging back up and haven"t been exercising. I have never had to sstop Herceptin and plan to be on it for a long time.
Did you have a MUGA test or the other kind?
Hang in there, Alice

muga is just a different type of test trying to get at the same info. Echocardiogram measures the physical contraction of the heart; muga measures the flow. So in a perfect world, the left ventricle would contract by say 60%, and the amount of blood flow through it would also be 60%. Either type of test works.
I also take Coq10, and try to maintain a reasonable level of cardio activity - even if it's just walking.
I always discuss any supplements with my doctors, and CoQ10 has always received blessings with any therapy - and has even been recommended at times by the doctor.
I use CoQ10 from Life Extension - which claims to be more absorbable but who knows.

I take costco's kirkland 300 mg 1 time per day it seems to agree with me ok and with Tykerb and Herceptin combo my ejection/fraction is around 66%. Some people do different brands and are ok with it, i have tried different brands but doesn't always "feel the same" either GI effects or "just didn't feel as good. Take care and good luck
