View Full Version : ~Mighty Oak Has Earned His Wings And Halo...

My Mighty Oak just passed at 1:25 on October 16, 2009. I write in my fighting color because although an end to his body, his soul and mine will continue to fight breast cancer.
I thank you all for joining us on this horrific journey, for sharing your love and education. We could have never done this without you all. I know I am already forgiven for my abscence from my family for the time to come.
I will post funeral plans as I know some have inquired. I am so relieved for him, his fight has been anything but simple. For the lives I am about to save and prolong at work in the cancer foundation, I do it in his honor....in all of your honors, for the memories of those we have loved and lost.
Please accept a special thank you for the newbies and quiet family that have stepped to the plate to let their voice be heard at the times I have needed it the most. For the outpour of help and offers of rides....for loving me through the worst moments of my life. I love you all!
Thank you Ed, for teaching me things even moments before your death. I will be alright until we meet again and that all comes from loving you! I will continue to make you proud! I love you forever!
Marie...aka Believe51!!!

My heart is just shredded and broken, but the minute I read this I got a vibration through my body, and I know our newest angel has already started his new job... he let me know.
Marie, all the love in the world. Prayers, comfort and peace through the next few days, weeks, months... your Mighty Oak is standing tall and protective over us all, especially you.
Today is my dear big brother's birthday, and I know that Ed is going to a fantastic party today... I know you know that it's a good one. My brother will make sure they say a toast to us. My bro was a mighty oak as well... standing 6'10" tall. He too was my protector and I know he is always keeping a good eye on us.

Marie, I send you love and hugs to help you find peace. I have tears in my eyes because Ed and you fought with all the love you had for one another. The way you write all your posts is exceptional and translates what a fine person you are. I understand all the feelings you have and admire the way Ed and you went through these terrible months. Marie, we love you here. I hate this sickness. Michka

Marie - I've been checking in every day expecting to see this news, knowing it was coming, but so dreading to see it. Today reading your message I am filled with peace - a sad peace. Your fight - Ed's fight was horrific yet couragous and your including us in it on this site gave me such a model of grace, love and perserverence. I thank you both for that and for the continued fight and advocacy you will do to fight this disease. My sympathy to you, dear brave, gracious, and compassionate Marie. I know you will have and feel Ed's spirit walking with you in the days ahead. Pam

Marie, I don't know what to say. You've allowed us to be part of your lives and all your triumphs, challenges and a part of seeing real devotion and love.
I cried when I opened this thread earlier this morning and I had to come back to it. Your wonderful Ed is no longer in pain and suffering so badly. He, and you, fought a good fight.
You are a true warrior and you have all of our respect and love. Stay strong, sweetie, we love you so much.

For Marie
When I pass to my reward.
Whatever that may be,
I'd like my friends to think of me
As one who loved a tree.
I may not have a statesman's poise
Nor thrill a throng with speech
But I may benefit mankind
If I set out a beech.
If I transport a sapling oak
To rear its mighty head
Twill make for them a childhood shrine,
That will not soon decay.
Of if I plant a tree with fruit,
On which the birds may feed,
Then I have fostered feathered friends
And that's a worthy deed.
For winter when the days grow short
And spirits may run low
I'd plant a pine upon the scape
T'would lend a cheery glow.
I'd like a tree to mark the spot
Where I am laid to rest
For that would be the epitaph
That I would like the best. Tho it's not carved upon a stone
For those who come to see
But friends would know that resting there
Is he, who loved a tree
-- Samuel N. Baxter
You must be exhausted. Please take good care of yourself. God bless Ed.

Marie,
The world feels different to me this morning . . . just like it did when I lost my mom and then my dad. Everyone around me is going through their routine at work, school or home. But for me - this will be a day of mourning and a day of reflection. You and your wonderful Ed have touched me in ways you will never know. I have gained strength through your courage & I have gained knowledge through your wisdom.
Do you realize what you have done by sharing his story with us on this board? Your Mighty Oak has planted acorns in all of us. All across the U.S. and indeed the world, we have the seed of his memory planted deep within us and we will not let it go. I thank you for that, you have given us such a great gift.
Take care of yourself as you travel down this road not wanted. Some days will be rough and some will be better. You will see that time will be a gift, but it does take "time". You know we love you, you know I LOVE YOU. The mom in me wants to take away your hurt because I know it runs very deep - because you love Ed so deeply. But I can't. You have been brave for so long, but remember it is okay to not be brave for awhile.
You are in my prayers, as you have been since we spoke this summer. Finally, remember that even though it might feel like it - you are NOT alone.
With deepest sympathy,
Alice Larson Mueller

Marie, I'm so sorry that Ed lost his battle with this damn cancer. I've been dreading reading this but like you, I'm telling myself that he is finally free from it. I don't know what else to say other than my heart goes out to you and Ed......
My Dearest Marie,
I am so, so sorry for your loss, yet relieved for Ed. Although he and I will not be able to exchange birthday cards next month, he has been born again into the Kingdom of our Creator, and will patiently await you in paradise.
Godspeed dear Ed, as you embark on the most magnificent journey there is to experience. I regret having never met you, but feel as though I know you well. God bless you Marie for all you did for Ed and for all of us.
Dear Lord, please welcome our beloved Ed into Your waiting arms, and present him his just reward for fighting so long to keep the life that You gave him. Bless him and keep him until we shall all meet again on Your immortal shore.

I'm breathing a breath of relief for Ed as his spirit soars freely today. I have to tell you, my husband, son and I did our local Soroptimist Walk for Life last weekend, and I got a pink balloon with Ed's name on it to honor his journey (I'll send a picture soon, the balloon is still on my special alter at home). My six year old son and I talked about Ed. I told him that Ed fought cancer for a long time, and now the cancer is too big and he is going to be an angel now. At first my son's response was of course, he'll be o.k. won't he? I told him, well, he's going to be an angel, soon. Then, he accepted that and said, "maybe we can ask his wife where his grave is and we can go there and wish him good luck being an angel!" Wow, my heart fluttered and I said that was a great idea, and that we could wish him luck from right here with our hearts. He held on tight to that pink balloon and guarded it loyally until it was safe at home in its special place.
My family and I are there in spirit, and wish we could be there to hug you. Thank you for staying in touch with us.
Love, Celeste

Well, Sweet Marie
I've been holding my breath, along with you, for weeks. Thinking about what to say and knowing that no words are worthy, or necessary. You know you are gently but firmly wrapped in my love, and that you will go on. And that your Mighty Oak is now soaring, whole and complete and free from pain.
Very shortly after my mom died, I had a dream in which I was stuck in a large crowd moving through turnstiles - like into a concert or ball game. The crowd wasn't moving at all, it was stifling. My mom was standing on the railing separating the lines. No, she was actually dancing - doing a jig high above the rest of us. Joyful and free at last...
Much much love to you my sweet Marie.
Dear Marie,
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies are extended to you and yours. Praying you will find peace, strength and comfort in your faith and in the love of family and friends in the days ahead.
Blessings,
~Karen

I want to say that I am so sorry for your loss. My sympathies go to you and Ed's family. The Mighty Oak is watching over all of us and providing shade for all cancer patients now. Ed's experience taught us alot about fighting cancer.
I want to add Ed to the "in loving memory" section of my website. I was just there starting to update it, but I am not finished, so I will add his name the next time I do more updating.
Please try to get a little rest before you go back to work and start fighting cancer on behalf of everyone. We can wait until you are well rested and ready to fight.

Dearest Marie -
Accept my big cyberhug, and hold on to all of us who are here to lean on as long as you need.
Your precious Ed is in the big "cruise ship in the sky" and waiting till the time he can get you a coffee again. Until then his large spirit is alive in many sectors bringing knowledge and a will to fight to others who suffer from or treat such rare cancers.
Let your sails down for a bit and run with the current. May you content in the unconditional love you have known and still feel for a long time in the future.

Marie - I just signed in - its Sunday for me in Italy - and it is strange that I was talking to Carlo last night in bed and he always asks about Ed --- and I was concerned as I hadn't heard from you and I knew it was close for Ed ....
I am relieved for him, and you that he is now at peace and out of the pain of this earthly body. What a great angel he will be. Don't be surprised if you see him from time to time... don't think you are crazy - it is really him. He will be your protector and your friend... we all need a mighty oak angel. I have had one for years (I lost at 25) so for 20 years, I have felt him close at those times I really felt I needed him the most .... and a few times I swear I saw him in the haze and saw him smile, or heard him laugh, with or for me....
A great book I love - might be a good one for you to read ... it helped me, years after my oak got his wings...
Only Love is Real, by Dr. Brian Weiss (or Wiess?) lovely book and makes you really understand that we will see our soul mates again....
I am crying with you, you are a dear friend already and I know we will be friends for a long time --- I am so looking forward to seeing you someday here in our paradise of Sardegna...
un abbraccio enorme e tanti baci (xoxoxoxo for us in English!)

My Sweet Sister Marie,
I have stayed away for too long and now I came back to hear of Ed. My eyes are filled with tears and my heart with empathy and sadness. He was so blessed to have you as you were to have him all these years. You taught all of us to live with grace and spirit and truth. I love you dearly, my friend, and I was getting ready to call you yesterday when I fell ill.
I write this to you tonight to thank you for being in my life, to let you know how much you are loved and much Ed will be missed. I feel he is here holding my shoulder as I write, guiding me nearer the light that shines nearby. We will all see each other again someday...it is today we need to walk through, talk through, cry through.
I am overcome right now with so much emotion. I wish I was there with you to hold you and comfort you. I will call you when I stop crying.
I love you always,
Vickie

The Lord saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put his arms around you
And whispered, "Come with me."
With tearful eyes, we watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
A beautiful smile at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.
It's lonesome here without you
We miss you so each day,
Our lives aren't the same
Since you went away.
When days are sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper,
"Cheer up and carry on."
Each time we see your picture,
You seem to smile and say,
"Don't cry, I'm in God's keeping,
We'll meet again someday."

So sorry for your loss and the loss of another to this terrible disease. You will be together again, I am sure of it..and, yes, he will be around you and yes, will appear from time to time in ways you would have never imagined. My father appeared to me after I was diagnosed....it was 31 years after his passing! I guess he felt that I really needed him...and I did!!!!
Bless you, Marie.
Love,
Barb

Marie,
You can tell by the amount of posts that you and Ed are loved. I still have the card and pictures you sent me. You are such an inspiration to us all. I am praying that the day comes quickly when the pain is gone and you are left with beautiful memories of "Mighty Oak".

Dear Marie,
I am so sorry and sad for Ed's passing. I have been away for a while because of computer problems, but Ed and you are always in my daily prayers, and I was still praying for his miracle. Now he is at peace, no more suffering, and he is free from this horrible disease.
Both of you were very blessed to have each other, and know that you were the best caregiver that Ed could have.
My deepest sympathy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God bless you all.
A big hug.
Love,
KarlaV.

Considering it all, remarkable and I try to be no hero here. I still hurt bad and the lonliness makes me want to scream. Been travelling and enjoying family and friends.
Glad to hear you are able to enjoy family and friends. I'm sure Ed is with you when you travel. But not having him there to point out something you notice, to comment on something must be exceptionally hard.
Hugs from across the ocean.
