Have you heard from Ginger? It's been some time since I had an email from her or saw her on this site.
Ginger has gotten on with her life. She still does speaking engagements on behalf of the Jonnson Cancer Center, but spends most of her time visiting her grandchildren .
Regards

Does someone have an artical on this - or a web link? I'm sorry, but I don't know Ginger... so would love to read up on her....
Guessing she is the first Herceptin recipient?
Thx, Karen

Ginger was in the trial (1995)that lead to Herceptin being used(approved by FDA) for metastatic Her2+ bc in late 1998.
I met her 3 years ago. She had been through all the available chemos at the time (there weren't as many then as now) and nothing touched her raging liver mets. Herceptin alone did the job for her. She was dying and fought to be in the trial - waiting for the doors to open and demanded life. It was a pretty incredible story to hear - especially since she is a quiet and rather meek woman (per se).

Also - Vi sent me an email - thank you both!
For the Story of Ginger-
If you go to the main board and go to the pull-down menu of Community you'll see member stories, and Ginger's is there. FYI! Take care. Vi

You can also find out more about Ginger by renting the movie "Living Proof". It was a Lifetime Original Movie last year that is now available on DVD. I am hoping that it will show up on TV again during the month of October.
Also I highly recommend a great read... "Her2; the Making of Herceptin" by Robert Bazell. The book tells an amazing true story of Dr. Dennis Slamon and the development of the drug.
