View Full Version : I Have Shrinkage!!!!
Sheila

This past week was a hectic one, after 6 treatments of Navelbine, my chemo was skipped until CT scans could verify if it was working. The nodes in my neck have remained unchanged, so it was questioned as to whether there was a response in my mediastinal and axillary nodes....well, CT confirmed that although the neck nodes are unchanged, the chest nodes had remarkable shrinkage, as did the axillary nodes. So, shrinkage and stable neck nodes....I stay on Navelbine, which I find incredibly easy after Taxol! Just wanted to share some good news, and hope....after over 4 straight years of chemo...things are still looking good! Like Pam...we are WAITING for a cure! Another update is that my hair is GROWNING.....I am so excited, Ok, Ok, I am grayer than my 81 yr old Mother, but I am so excited to have hair! My neighbor told me it looked "distinguished"....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So happy to hear the good news, Sheila. And if there's shrinkage in those nodes, there can be shrinkage of the neck node sometime soon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Dear Sheila -
SO HAPPY for you. BIG, broad grin!
You did not mention markers, but maybe they are not accurate with the nodes problem. Anyway, the scans are the main thing.
Staying on Navelbine should allow your hair to keep coming in. I know each time I lost mine it would come back quite gray and than as I got it trimmed up and it continued to grow, it would change back to my natural color. So, maybe yours will keep evolving.
Any chance to radiate or do another treatment to get those neck nodes in line??
This is just great news. I think of you so much and
all you have been through as many have. I wish you
the best and send my healing thoughts your way for
complete shrinkage of those nodes.

your great news Sheila!! I am thrilled for you.

Go, Sheila. Congratulations. If only a side effect were "shrinkage" of the hips and thighs. Sigh.

Shelia, That is wonderful news! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that those stubborn neck nodes disappear too. I can remember all to well how excited I was when I saw hair on my head...I was doing the happy dance. I'll be looking forward to more good news from you.
(MJO...I laughed when I read your comment...that would be a NICE side affect...but no such luck.) lol

Fantastico! Good work Sheila... I am sooooo happy!!
And hair is a wonderful thing, even if you have funny little radiation bald spots like me. Luckily there are only 2 and they are right under the occipital bone, and for the most part my hair covers them. I can't see them, so they don't really bother me, but I've taken to drawing eyeballs on them with a sharpie just to freak out people who might be behind in line at the store...

Thanks to all for your wonderful thoughts and words of wisdom....all of you are probably the BEST medicine for me....you keep me on the positive track in this battle. I am guest speaker for survivors this Sunday to honor my friend Dede who lost her battle 1 year ago...she would have been 50....her wish was to find a cure, we are carrying her dream into battle for all!

Sheila,
Wonderful news about the major shrinkage. Yes!! And being able to tolerate the Navelbine well is a real plus too.
Perhaps it takes longer for the neck nodes to react to the treatment, especially since it's working well on the chest nodes.

Congratulations on the shrinkage---------and the hair.
Keep going !!!!! The Navelbine is pretty good stuff.
A little hair story. The senior medical assistant in my docs office was complaining about the color of her hair. I just looked at her and said, "Be thankful you have hair. Alot of people around here don't have any !!!!! " That stopped the complaints.

With the good news comes some I didnt want to hear...my implant from reconstruction is LEAKING!!!! Yep, silicone is oozing out into a capsulated area....and I was told i am not a candidate for any chest surgery right now due to all the nodes. So I guess I walk around with a flat tire so to speak. As if that wasnt enough, my Oncologist for the past 7 1/2 years told me Tuesday that she is retiring.....I feel like I am losing the major part of my team....I will be transferred to another very good oncologist at Rush, but it is sad nonetheless. I feel like she is a close friend, she treated my Mom, and me....it will be different!
