Freaked out over new lump

That's right, ladies and gentlemen.

I was playing with my new boobs (as i do quite often lately because they feel so soft!) and I felt a small lump. Same side as the cancer, about 1:00 position (if I had a nipple). I would estimate it less than a cm. It is right on the edge of the implant. It almost feels elongated like part of a blood vessel or something. But it is hard.

After pouring over Lani's reports on radiation to Christie, I guess with my ER/PR - status, I'm at extra risk for recurrance. but DANG. I haven't even finished rads yet!

I'm seeing my plastic surgeon for a follow up on Thursday. I will point it out to him and see if it might be part of the implant or something. After that, i guess it's back to biopsy-land for me :(.

Just thought i'd add my 2 cents. I also found a lump pea size while still on herceptin. They removed it(plastic guy) he was fairly sure it was fat necrosis or part of scar tissue. In fact it was a fatty necrosis, it was sent off and came back neg! So there is a strong possiblity it may be something other then that D..cancer!

I'd be totally freaked out too! Although I think that so soon after surgery it's quite likely something benign. As: "Don't worry" doesn't really help, I'll just say: Hang in there friend! We're all here with you. Just a few days until your visit with your doc. You'll know more by then. Keep breathing. In and Out. In and Out. This too shall pass.

Wow, Suzanne, thanks for that! Makes me feel better knowing there might be some other kind of explanation! Wheeew! I know I still have to get it checked out, but it still allows me to breathe a bit.

Terri, I have a very strong feeling that it is just scar tissue. I can totally understand what you are going through. I had some hardning within 6 months of surgery as well. I had freaked out as well.

They performed an MRI and found it to be just benign fat and scar tissue.

Just came from my rads appt and I had my radiologist feel me up. He had the same thought as you guys! He says he's almost sure it's scar tissue from surgery! He said follow up with the PS and Surgeon!

This subject just came up last night with one of my friends. She had a double mast a number of years ago and she said that a lump appeared too. What happened was she was reaching a little too much and pulled one of the inside stitches out. Just a thought too. I believe everything will be just fine on Thursday.

Thanks guys, this is definately the best place to come when a girl needs some extra support and comfort.

I saw my plastic surgeon yesterday and he said "yeah, it could be scar tissue" but he advised me to see my breast surgeon to get her opinion. He said it might require a biopsy :((

I won't relax until I know. I'm not running around like a screaming mimi or anything, but I will definately have a couple of beers tonight!

It probably is scar tissue, I have lumps around where my lumpectomy was done. And seeing that you just got your "new boobs" last month, it probably is scar tissue forming. But please have it checked with a biopsy or scan or something. Not to scare you, but my good friend had a mastecomy done almost 4 years ago and 6 months ago was diagnosed with a reoccurance. She had 2 lumps show up in her breast, they lit up on a PET scan and it was indeed cancer. So it is always good to have things checked when they appear suddenly....sherryg683

Dear Terri, I have had a lump like that , actually rather a large one, since about a month after my bilateral mastectomy in 1985. It really scared me, but it turned out to be scar tissue. It's still there 23 years later. I did have reoccurance but in my spine in 1990 and in my lungs in 2004. The first two BC's were regular breast cancer and the last one was her2. You are doing the right thing keeping track of it and following through with your medical team. I would almost bet the farm, though, that it is scar tissue or something similar. Well, just came from my breast surgeon and she doesn't seem to be concerned about it. She did ultrasound and measured it this way and that, so that we would have a baseline for Marchs appointment. She said that's about all she could do right now because i'm being radiated.

On that note, my collarbone sure is burnt. I'm red all over the area, but this area is particularly angry and itchy. using aloe and Aquafor. 17 done and 16 left to go. UGH!
