hip is stable from 2 years ago but spine is T score is -1.5 soooooo ...I will ask my new Onc (when I get to Tampa and get set up with one) what she/he thinks about Zometa. I guess BONIVA/ACTONEL didnt help all that much?
truthfully I dont fully understand what my lowering score REALLY means in the big picture~ guess I'll have to bone up on things (hahahaha)..

What I wouldn't give to have a T-score of -1.5
My T-Score in my spine is -3.8
My T-Score in my hip's is -3.4
So I know for a fact that Actonel isn't helping me.
What it means is that when your score goes lower the med's are working.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has established the following definitions based on bone density measurement at any skeletal site in white women.
Normal: T-score above -1 (BMD is within 1 SD of a "young normal" adult)
Osteopenia: T-score between -1 and -2.5 (BMD is between 1 and 2.5 SD below that of a "young normal" adult)
Osteoporosis: T-score at or below -2.5 (BMD is 2.5 SD or more below that of a "young normal" adult. Women in this group with one or more fractures are deemed to have severe or "established" osteoporosis.)

Dear Yorkie,
I am not whining per se~ I've made some very significant lifestyle changes in the last few years and am just disappointed they arent reflected in my T score.
I lowered my overall cholesterol # from 206 to 185 in 1 year by eliminating certain foods, increasing weight bearing exercize and quiting smoking after 30+ years.
My weight is excellent and I have gone down a number of clothing sizes (some of it due to reconstruction :)))
Just was SOOOO hoping on improvement on bone density too..
I hope Zometa does the trick for both of us!

Thanks for explaining the T score system Vicki. I always knew where I stood as far as the numbers and numbers to normal are but didn't know what it all really meant.

Hey Marcia & Yorkiegirl, one more time I need to post what wonders Zometa worked for the Mighty Oak's severe bone issues. I personally hope the opinion from the new doctor is a 'go'! If you do get on it, may work the same magic it did for Ed. Sending extra holiday love>>Believe51
