I will have to go home and look up the posters, and I hope I remember to do so, but I wanted to share what I saw on 2 posters that were not in the "spectacular breaking news" category but were of some interest!

Patty Fintak (U of W vaccine trial) had a poster with data collected from their her2 vaccine trials in which they tracked how participants found out about the clinical trial. Most found out from their doctors, but a good percentage found out from the internet. Of those who learned about the trial from the internet, 38% learned it right here at her2support.org! Beating out the nci clinical trials website! We had a number of members in various of the trials there, it was pretty cool to get recognition!

And speaking of cool, from time to time I've shared that the ladies at my onc's office who got Taxotere all had bags of frozen peas that they put on their fingers and toes during the infusion to try to prevent damage to the nail beds. I saw a poster in which they studied if wearing "frozen gloves" (which looked like silicone oven mitts, only cold!) would result in less damage to nails while getting Taxotere - and it WORKED! So now we know that it doesn't HAVE to be peas, it could be corn...or I suppose someday you could invest in these frozen gloves and insurance might pay but then you wouldn't have anything left over for dinner.

So, all those who laughed at my frozen peas idea...

Chris, they provide the gloves to everyone at the clinic I visit! They do look a bit silly, but they seem to work; so....so what!
But I think peas, corn or the like is much cooler! ma

I wonder if they will come up with something special to suck on during A/C instead of a Popsicle. I cannot eat any red popsicles anymore, or drink red kool-aid it reminds me too much of Adriamycian.

Just cut and pasted your post to a newly dx'd friend of a friend who is starting treatment next week. No doubt she will come armed with her peas. Thanks for the info!

Hey guys, Tip was scheduled for radiation last week, but I think it had to be rescheduled. Her pal Brenda will have to get her another appointment! She's quite a gal, that Tip! She was such a hit at the exhibit. Everyone wanted to meet her and Tex. The tykerb folks especially wanted pictures with Tex.
