Update on Lily Ecuador

Lily is not doing well. One of the tumors in the liver have 'exploded' in size so much that it has allowed the disease to spread to other parts of the body near by. Notibly the small intestine, pelvis and stomach. Her liver is failing because of the tumors now.

The surgeon and the oncologists have said there is nothing they can do medically. I've spoken with two surgeons since then.

She is home and we're surounding her with love and prayers. She responds well to it.

Last phone call Lily seemed to be doing well, this is happening so quickly. Please do not give up hope, Michael, even in this situation where you may think there is none. We will be begging God for a miracle.

I am so sad to hear about Lily. I have been praying for her for a while now, but now I will pray even harder for her to get her miracle. Please, do not let the doctors give up on her, she still can bounce back and get better, depending on her next treatment. We have been calling each other for a while now. I spoke with her about a week ago, and she was feeling good, I cannot believe this is happening to her. This disease is so horrible!!! Lily knows I was having a new chemo treatment last Monday, Ixempra, and she was praying for me too. Please, let her know that Karla-Kavy from California had a rough week too, that is why I did not call her, only today(Monday) I am feeling better. Tell her I am praying very hard for her, and that God will listen to all our prayers, and she will get better soon. Please, give her a big hug, and tell her I love her.
Earlier today, before reading your post, I called Lily to know how she was doing, and I spoke with her Mom. I hope I did not misunderstand her, we spoke in Spanish, she told me that Lily is in the hospital, and that tomorrow(Wednesday) she will have a procedure done, but she does not know if it will be chemo or Sphere. Could you, please, let us know if this information is correct? I pray it is, because I want my sister Lily to bounce back soon, as she did before.

Please excuse me stoic nature. I try not to lean on anyone. It's part of being a southern fellow, I guess. I want to say that between my Lily and I, you all were a major part of our conversations in enlightening, and encouraging ways. So few times in my life I've had a real opportunity to say - God Bless you, truely.

In a world were it's seems hard not to think or feel this is all just a bad episode or any action of love, brotherhood, or sisterhood is 'dramatic' I want to say simply - you all have, through her and with her, changed me into finally believing in that a simple touch is all that's needed. I am so sorry for the loss of your Dear Maria. I loved her so and the gap in my daily life will be enormously empty without our frequent talks. I know that she called my husband a "Monster" and maybe you did not understand her logic about that. A "Monster" as Lily said, "Was a person in combat, fighting back this disease with fortitude and determination. All while setting goals and dreams of NED. Along the way receiving blessings and reaching NED. Achieving a plateau which with to rest as the 'cure' catches up! A person whom 'Believes' and never gives up, who fights for the very last second of life. A being that knows no limits and sets examples of courage, faith and bavery. A person who inspires hope and love to flourish."

Funny, this appears to reflect how I always viewed her. She never considered herself a "Monster", she felt that she had not achieved NED (for long anyway) and that was part of the so talked about 'Monstership'. She was my Monster, she was my hero, she was my very sweet friend. Although she touched my life with such power, she just considered herself as average. My world is a little sad right now for me, for Ed, for her family at Her2 and I pray for us all to move on with a smile. Lily prayed for us all, especially those that had their journey left in God's hands.

I pray for you Michael, I pray for those gorgeous children and her family who moved to the United States to be by her side. The road has been tough for you all for so long. May God walk besides you all as you move forward through this loss.

And Lily, maybe you never achieved NED (for long).....but you shall always remain My Special Monster. I shall hear that accent ring true in my ears and mind whenever I think of you. You will always be alive in my heart and soul.
