Back on the Epirubicon & 'Walk for Life'! :-))

Hello friends - well I just started back on Epirubicon (yesterday - seems like ages ago now!) - just for 2 cycles - I think!?

Apparently this is so I can go onto Tykerb and Xeloda - as I didnt complete the intial round of FEC - because I broke my R/hip with bone mets back in October 07. The authorising bodies are saying I must complete 3 rounds of Epirubicon before I can start Tykerb...

Seeing I cant stay on Herceptin and be on Tykerb at the same time, I need to cease the Herceptin - given these new lot of mets in the lungs - it does appear that the Herceptin really isnt working for me. Ideally I'd like to be on both - but apparently its not allowed in Australia. Unless I can fork up about $5000 per month which is obviously beyond my means. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Anyway Im coming to more acceptance that this is the path for me and was happy just to get some treatment yesterday.

Also had a great day with my friends (apart from having chemo together LOL!) we are organising our 'Walk for Life' - again which celebrates ways to address issues of chronic ill-health in the Aboriginal community - i'll see if I can add some picks (must start me photo album here). The 4 main areas we are raising awareness about are: heart disease, cancer, renal disease and diabetes. It is always great fun!

Starting to feel a bit alive again - and that my life is not OVER because the cancer has come back. You folks are a big part of that process. Thanks so much for being here.

Hermiracles, Good luck with the new treatment. And the Tykerb without the Herceptin will be fine. It was just suggested to me because I progressed while I was on Herceptin alone. Joan

You are one of the reasons I absolutely hate to freak about a lousy DCIS online. Who the hell am I when you are such an amazing mother (of adorable twins) and have so much more to deal with than I have right now.

Carry on sister. I hope the epiribicin does something and the Xeloda and Tykerb do the rest.

Oh Becky - you freak out all you like about a lousy DCIS! sis - because I still dont think I was given adeqate care at the time. I did read your post and wanted to come back and say - get a 2nd opinion! Not that I really know anything its just from my experience - its just that we all deserve the best eh? if we can get it.

First of all, it was SO wonderful to see smiley thingies on your post! And yes, I'm especially glad you are feeling like you still have some of that fight - and life - in you!

Re the Herceptin and Tykerb, it is not "standard of care" to receive both at the same time...so it might be a struggle to get this (and, as you note, pay for it).

Tykerb + Xeloda has been a great combination and has worked well not only for the faceless people in the trials, but for many on this board. Maybe making the switch from Herceptin at this time will be a good thing.

So, hang in there through your epirubicin - wouldn't it be a kicker if THAT worked even before you started the tykerb/Xeloda! Sometimes (well, often!) it seems like we have to jump through way too many hoops.
